  • Day492

Long day of driving today, heading eastwards roughly towards Oslo. Nothing particularly exciting though we did stop at a couple of waterfalls along the way. One or two scenic routes, and suddenly your four hour drive has become seven hours!

Our destination for the day was Rjukan, where we'll film the industrial world heritage site here tomorrow. No cabin or apartment stay, just the tent!

  • Day493

Spent the day checking out the hydroelectric power stations in the Rjukan area. Essentially this world heritage site is about the production of artificial fertilizer - it was invented here and along with oil is still one of Norway's largest exports.

The process by which the fertilizer is made involves huge amounts of energy, so two hydro power stations were built in the area to generate the energy needed, and those buildings are the ones on the world heritage list. Interesting little town, particularly with the company town aspects too. And the funniest part - it's in a deep valley and during winter the town never gets any direct sunlight, so they installed a Mr Burns-style sun reflecting machine on the northern ridge to reflect sunlight down into the town!

Satisfied with our filming, we drove the last couple of hours eastwards to Oslo and set up shop in a crowded campground on the outskirts of the city. No cabins here - very expensive! So we'll use the tent for our last two nights.

Kõigepealt ronisime autoga 1150m kõrgusele ja siis sealt sai edasi mäe sees oleva üle-alla liikuva rongiga. Mäe sisse 39° tunneli koos raudteega ehitas ameerika sõjavägi raadioside jaoks. Tänapäeval on tegu turistide atraktsiooniga.

Kõigepealt sõitsime 800m horisontaalselt rongiga mäe sisse ja seejärel 1 km 39° nurga all trossi otsas olevate vagunitega ülesse. Rongijuht, kellega Kadriga ühes vagunis olime, oli väga sõbralik ja jutukas. Teesid isegi kus Eesti on. Ütles, et pühapäev on tankimiseks kõige soodsam päev Norras.

Täitsa tipu kõrgus kus käisime oli 1880m. Selge ilmaga pidi sealt isegi Taani näha olema, kuigi see on väga kaugel. Wikipedia andmetel näeb ülalt 1/6 Norra sisemaa pindalast. Vaade oli igaljuhul hea.

Kuskil lõunapoolsel nõlval peaks olema vana lennuki vrakk, mida on liiga riskantne koristama hakata. Meie Kadriga ei märkanud küll midagi.

Muidugi pidi ka üleval kohvik olema. Metsa läinud vahvlid anti koertele.

    Strikkhopping

    June 28 in Norway

Was unmissverständlich Bungee Jumping heißt.

    June 27 in Norway
