    Show #19 Zürich

    December 22, 2019 in Switzerland ⋅ 🌧 6 °C

Froher 4. Advent aus Zürich! ⛄🦌

    Frohe Weihnachten euch allen! 😘👋🏻

    Zonked in Zurich

    September 16, 2019 in Switzerland ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

Well my readers, we have finally reached the last stage - a one-night stand in Zurich before we head back across the pond. We have worn ourselves out and are finding it hard to put one foot in front of the other. The highlight so far was when our hotel room attendant gave us about 20 Swiss chocolate squares which we immediately scarfed down: still no energy!

We did manage to get out to explore the old town, another amazing jumble of medieval streets replete with tiny shops (mostly selling watches and jewellery) and restaurants.

Interesting fact. There are 1,224 fountains scattered throughout the city of Zurich. Stadt Zurich employs a whole team of people whose job it is to inspect and check up on the quality of the water in the drinking fountains – and to make sure it is fit to drink at all times. Number one on the list is the Amazonenbrunnen which was the first supplied by spring water and which dates back to 1430. No need to buy bottled water here or anywhere in Switzerland. So, Charlyne, there was no problem with Owen drinking the water out of the fountain in Bern (but, thank you for your concern😀😀).

    Google Zurich

    May 15, 2019 in Switzerland ⋅ ⛅ 10 °C

Problems with the sat nav not recognising a main road being closed made me very late meeting Andrew at his office in Zurich Centre. We had a lovely meal followed by an extensive tour of Google which employs over 2000 people. It is a truely amazing place. It must be great fun working there.Read more

Und plötzlich ist es doch Winter...

    January 22 in Switzerland ⋅ ☁️ -3 °C

    840

    September 15, 2019 in Switzerland ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

Well, after 1350 kilometers (which sounds more impressive than 840 miles ;-) ), I made it to Zürich, Switzerland.

Finishing a bike tour alone in a foreign country is a little strange. Nobody knows what I just accomplished, or cares.

Not that I do it for people to be impressed, but it's a little anti-climactic to spend many, many days thinking of this moment, and then you get to your hostel and they're just like, "ok, here is your key."

Well *I* know what I did. And it was crazy. I have climbed SEVEN THOUSAND FEET in the past few days. I have descended almost the same amount, on steep, thrilling and terrifying downhills. My legs hurt from climbing. My hands hurt from braking. I don't have any Swiss money, so today I got by on some gas station coffee and snacks for 44 miles, since most small local places don't let you charge and grocery stores are closed on Sundays.

I am in Switzerland, so when I finally arrived and settled in, I ate cheese for dinner (specifically raclette - cheese melted over things) and had chocolate for dessert (ice cream) and I didn't really know what else to do with myself, so I went for a short bike ride to see the things. Of course.

Lake Zurich, it turns out, isn't just a Chicago suburb, but an actual Lake, in Zurich, Switzerland. There are lots of swans, and the snowy-peaked alps can be seen in the distance.

Tomorrow I take a train back to Germany to like, actually vacation for a few days before going back to work. I averaged 62 miles a day on this trip, carting my 100lb bike and gear. My body needs a break.

I'm going to be filling in everything from the past few hundred miles tonight. More beauty to come.

    Hotel Nr. 2 in Zürich

    November 8, 2019 in Switzerland ⋅ ☁️ 4 °C

    Good morning from Zurich!

    December 23, 2019 in Switzerland ⋅ 🌧 4 °C

So after about 12 hours of sleep, we have awoken in our Airbnb apartment ready for a day of exploring this city. It’s a bit overcast but with a top of 8 degrees, not too cold!! We are staying and catching up with a couple of our Brisbane friends who have been living overseas for the past year. Looking forward to walking around and exploring some Christmas Markets today :)Read more

    Our 48 hours in Zurich

    December 23, 2019 in Switzerland ⋅ 🌧 5 °C

A bit slow in adding these photos but we had such a great time catching up with my friends Richelle and Travis in Zurich. We went for city strolls, walked through many Christmas Markets (mulled cider is much nicer than mulled wine in my opinion haha!) had lunch in a old arsenal building and visited the renowned Confiserie Sprüngli chocolate shop.Read more
