    Blue Mountains National Park

    Die Blue Mountains liegen etwa 110 km westlich von Sydney entfernt. Viele tiefe Schluchten und Flüsse durchziehen die Blue Mountains mit den vielen Eukalyptusbäumen. Hier haben wir das Wochenende mit Denny und Simon, sowie Freunde von denen auf einem abgelegenen und ruhigen Campingplatz beim gemütlichen Sitzen am Lagerfeuer und beim Wandern durch die Berge verbracht.

    The Blue Mountains are located about 110km apart from Sydney. Many gorges and rivers are crossing the Blue Mountains with lots of gum trees. Here we've spent the weekend with Denny and Simon, as well as some friends of them at a solitary and quiet campground, by sitting cosy at a camp fire and hiking through the mountains.    Read more

    Sydney

    Sydney ist die älteste, größte und vielfältigste Stadt des Landes und wurde um einen der schönsten Häfen der Welt gebaut. Am Sydney Harbour haben wir eine kostenlose und sehr empfehlenswerte Führung (Welcome Walking Tours) mitgemacht, bei der wir viel über die Geschichte erfahren konnten. 1788 kamen die Briten unter dem Kommando des Flottenkapitäns Arthur Phillip und brachten eine zusammengewürfelte Schar aus Sträflingen, Marinesoldaten und Nutzvieh mit. Sie besetzten das Land und vertrieben die indigenen Völker. Der Tag der Landung in der Bucht von Sydney war der 26. Januar, was hier als Australia Day gefeiert wird (bei den Ureinwohnern oft auch "Invasion Day" genannt).
    Auch im australischen Museum konnten wir viel über die Geschichte, Flora und Fauna erkunden.

    Das berühmte Wahrzeichen und Weltkulturerbe, das Opernhaus, wurde vom dänischen Architekten Jørn Utzon entworfen und dominiert das Bild des Circular Quay. Natürlich ist auch die Harbour Bridge eine der typischsten Sehenswürdigkeiten, hier hat man die Möglichkeit ganz oben auf die Brücke zu klettern und die Aussicht zu genießen, jedoch muss man dafür ordentlich ins Portmonnaie greifen. Die beste Aussicht auf die Oper und die Innenstadt hatten wir auf einer Fähre, die hier mit zum öffentlichen Nahverkehr zählen, für eine günstigere Variante bekommen.

    Rund um den Hafen gibt es viele geschützte Buschlandgebiete, die zum Wandern einladen und von denen man tolle Aussichten auf die Stadt hat.

    Sydney hat auch viele sehr schöne Strände, die wir uns nicht alle ansehen konnten. Einige wie Bondi Beach, Cronulla Beach und Balmoral Beach haben wir besucht.

    Inzwischen hatte Viktor sogar einen Tauchkurs für das offene Meer in Cronulla belegt. Unter Wasser haben sie in der Gruppe viele verschiedene kleine und große Fische, Tintenfische, Haie, Rochen und auch Schildkröten gesehen.

    Sydney ist the oldest, biggest and most diverse city in the country and was built around on one of the most beautiful harbours of the world. At the Sydney Harbour we've taken part in a free and very recommendable tour (Welcome Walking Tours), in which we could have learned a lot about the history. In 1788 the British came under the command of Arthur Phillip, the captain of the fleet and brought a mixed regiment of convicts, marines and domestic cattles. They occupied the country and dispelled the indigenous people. The day of the disembarkment in the bay of Sydney was the 26th of January, which is celebrated as the Australia Day (from the natives often called "Invasion Day").
    Also in the Australian Museum we could learn a lot about the history, fauna and flora.

    The lendmark and World Culture Heritage, the Opera House, was designed by the Danish architect Jørn Utzon and dominates the image of the Circular Quay. For sure the Harbour Bridge is also one of the most typical tourist attractions, here you have the possibility to climb on the top of the bridge and enjoy the view, however for this you have to grab deep in your purchase.
    The best view to the Opera House and the city we've got from the ferry more favourable, because it belongs to the public transport.

    Around the Harbour there are a few protected bushland areas, which is appealing for hiking and from where you can get georgous views of the city.

    Sydney also has lots of nice beaches, but we couldn't see all of them. Several, like Bondi Beach, Cronulla Beach and Balmoral Beach we've visited.

    Meanwhile Viktor even did a scuba diving course for open water in Cronulla. With the group underwater they've seen lots of different small and big fish, cuttlefish, sharks, rays and turtles.    Read more

    Royal National Park

    Der Royal National Park liegt südlich von Sydney und erstreckt sich über etwa 32 km. Zunächst sind wir mit der Fähre von Cronulla nach Bundeena gefahren und dann den wunderschönen Wanderweg direkt an der Küste entlang gewandert. Bis an den Marley Beach und wieder zurück über den Jibbon Head, wo man interessante Felszeichnungen von den Aborigines sehen kann, sind wir etwa 20 km gewandert.

    The Royal National Park ist located south of Sydney and trends over about 32km. First of all we took the ferry from Cronulla to Bundeena and then we hiked at the beautiful walking track directly along the coast. Till the Marley Beach and return, across the Jibbon Head, where you can see interesting rock paintings of the Aborigines, we walked about 20 km.    Read more

    From Gold Coast to Sunshine Coast

    Nachdem wir nun Sydney hinter uns gelassen haben, ging es weiter an die Central Coast, mit jeweils kurzen Stopps in Port Macquarie, Byron Bay, Gold Coast, Brisbane bis nach Mooloolaba an der Sunshine Coast.

    In Port Macquarie haben wir ein Koala Krankenhaus besucht, wo freiwillige Helfer sich um kranke und verletzte Koalas kümmern und sie, wenn möglich wieder auswildern. Einige Koalas wurden durch Autounfälle und Waldbrände verletzt oder haben Clamydien, die bedingt durch verminderte Nahrungsquellen auftreten, woran die Menschen mit der stetigen Waldrodung nicht ganz unschuldig sind. Jedoch gibt es Koalas, die aufgrund von bestimmten Schäden in der Natur nicht überleben würden, deshalb gibt es hier auch permanente Bewohner, die man dann kostenlos sehen kann.

    Weiter in Byron Bay, ein schöner kleiner "Hippie" Ort mit perfekten Surfstränden konnten wir zum ersten Mal ein paar Wale beobachten, die man auf dem Wanderweg zum Leuchtturm in der Ferne gut sehen konnte. Hier haben wir uns auch eine geführte Tour zur größten Sandinsel der Welt aufschwatzen lassen... was und wo die genau ist, erfahrt ihr im nächsten Footprint. 😉

    Die Gold Coast mit dem bekannten Surfers Paradise ist sehr touristisch, modern und ein Paradies für Surfer und Zocker. Die Australier nennen es auch, das australische Miami.

    Brisbane haben wir uns nur für ein paar Stunden angeschaut, hier kann man sich die Stadt kostenlos mit der Fähre (Free City Hopper) vom Wasser aus ansehen. Die Stadt ist noch sehr neu und ein bisschen ähnlich wie Melbourne von Wolkenkratzern und Businessleuten umzingelt.

    In Mooloolaba waren wir nach langer Zeit endlich wieder im Meer schwimmen und haben einen schönen Abend mit Grit verbracht. Da wir nämlich bereits in Queensland angekommen sind und wie der Name Sunshine Coast schon sagt, wird das Wetter wieder besser und die Temperaturen steigen wieder über 20 Grad an. 😊

    After we've left Sydney behind, we moved along at the Central Coast, with short breaks in Port Macquarie, Byron Bay, Gold Coast, Brisbane as far away as Mooloolaba at the Sunshine Coast.

    In Port Macquarie we've visited a Koala Hospital, where volunteers caring for sick or injured koalas, which they return to the wild if possible. Severe koalas were injured in car accidents and forest fires or they've got clamydia, which occurs through reduced food resources, whereof the humans aren't innocent because of the wood clearing. Though there are koalas, which would not survive in nature, therefore here they have permanent residents, which you can see here for free.

    Further in Byron Bay, a lovely small "hippie" town with perfect surf beaches, we've seen some wales for the first time, which you can see in the distance on the walking trail to the lighthouse. Here we let ourself get talked into buying a guided tour to the biggest sand island of the world... what and where it exactly is, you will get to know in a upcoming footprint. 😉

    The Gold Coast with the famous Surfers Paradise is very touristic, modern and a paradise for surfers and gamblers. The Australians also call it the australian Miami.

    We visited Brisbane only for a few hours, here you can take the ferry for free (Free City Hopper) to explore the city from the water. The city is still new and a bit similar to Melbourne, surrounded by skyscrapers and businesspeople.

    In Mooloolaba we had again at last a swim in the sea and we spent a lovely evening with Grit.
    Cause we already reached Queensland and as its name Sunshine Coast implies, the weather is getting better and the temperatures are increasing again over 20°. 😊    Read more

    Gorgeous Fraser Island

    Fraser Island ist die weltgrößte Sandinsel, hier wächst der einzige Regenwald der Welt auf losem Sandboden. Dementsprechend konnten wir auch nicht mit unserem Camper auf die Insel und haben deshalb eine Tour mit einer lustigen Multi-Kulti-Gruppe gebucht, wo wir selbst mit einem Geländewagen fahren konnten. Es hat ziemlich viel Spass gemacht, auf dem Strand und off-road damit zu fahren.

    Auf der Insel gibt es viel zu sehen, besonders tiefblaue Seen, kristallklare Bäche, riesige Dünen und grünen Regenwald. Auf dem glasklaren, schnell fließenden Eli Creek haben wir uns im Wasser stromabwärts tragen lassen. Ein Stückchen weiter liegt das verostete Wrack der Maheno, ein ehemaliges Passagierschiff, welches eine interessante Geschichte hat. Am Indian Head und bei den Champagne Pools konnten wir in der Ferne viele Buckelwale beobachten, wie sie aus dem Wasser springen und Adler, wie sie Fische aus dem Wasser holen. Auch ein paar Dingos haben wir aus sicherer Entfernung am See und am Strand sehen können. Übernachtet haben wir in einem abgelegenen Camp am Strand in simplen Zelten...das war dann morgens am ganzen Körper zu spüren.

    Fraser Island is the worldwide biggest sand island, here is a unique rainforest, which is only growing on unconsolidated sand. Following this, we can't on the island with our campervan, so therefore we booked a tour with an amusing multicultural group, where we could drive a 4x4 by ourselves. It was really good fun driving at the beach and off-road.

    On the island there is a lot to see, especially deep blue lakes, crystal clear​ creeks, huge dunes and green rainforest. On the crystal clear and swift-flowing Eli Creek we just floated downstream. A bit further is located the rusty shipwreck of the Maheno, an old liner, which has an interesting story. At Indian Head and at the Champagne Pools we could observe some humpbacks in the distance jumping out of the water and some eagles getting fish from the sea. We've also seen some Dingos at the lake and at the beach from a safe distance. For overnight we stayed in ordinary tents... in the morning we could feel that all over the body.    Read more

    Whitsunday Islands

    Airlie Beach dient vielen Leuten als Ausgangspunkt für die traumhaften Whitsunday Islands. So haben auch wir von dort aus mit einem Schnellboot einen geführten Tagesausflug gemacht. Insgesamt gibt es hier 74 Inseln mit wunderschönen Sandstränden, umgeben von kristallklarem, türkis- und indigoblauen Korallenmeer. Leider ist die Landschaft noch von dem starken Wirbelsturm Debbie gezeichnet, der vor etwa drei Monaten viel zerstört hatte. Daher konnten wir beim Schnorcheln mehr zerstörte, als lebendige Riffe sehen.
    Ein bekannter und für viele der schönste Strand der Welt, ist der Whitehaven Beach auf Whitsunday Island. Von dem Hill Inlet Aussichtspunkt wirkt das wirbelnde Muster aus blendend weißem Sand, der sich durch türkisblaues Wasser zieht, wie magisch.

    Airlie Beach serves a lot of people as a starting point for the dreamlike Whitsunday Islands. So we also did a guided one-day tour with a speedboat from there. Overall there are 74 islands with beautiful sandbeaches, surrounded by the crystal clear, turquoise and indigo blue Coral sea. Unfortunately the landscape is still marked from the strong cyclone Debbie, which destroyed a lot about three months ago. Therefore at the snorkeling we could see more destroyed, than vivid reefs.
    One of the most famous and for lots of people the most beautiful beach, is the Whitehaven Beach at Whitsunday Island. From the Hill Inlet lookout, the swirling pattern from the white shining sand, which is crossing through the turquoise blue water, seems to be magical.    Read more

    Palm Cove

    Auf der Suche nach Jobs hatten wir einen kurzen Zwischenstopp in Townsville eingelegt, hier arbeitete Sarah auf einem Showground, eine Art Kirmes, auf einer Kinderattraktion.

    Übrigens haben wir nun auch einen Mitfahrer namens "Kangy", den Bianca uns mit auf den Weg gegeben hat. :)

    Seit zwei Wochen sind wir nun schon in dem kleinen Touristenort Palm Cove nördlich von Cairns. Hierher hat uns eigentlich nur die Arbeit gezogen, denn Sarah arbeitet hier zurzeit im Tropical Day Spa und Viktor in einer Autowerkstatt.

    Hier im Norden ist es nun sehr tropisch, viele Palmen, Regenwald und warmes sonniges Wetter.
    Im Meer sollte man hier zwar vorsichtig sein beim schwimmen wegen Quallen und Krokodilen, aber dennoch kann man sich kurz abkühlen und Viktor kann hier fleißig weiter kiten üben.
    Ansonsten eignen sich die sogenannten Rockpools für eine Erfrischung, letztens waren wir zum Beispiel bei den Jourama Falls und haben unter kleinen Wasserfällen gebadet.

    Ein Weilchen werden wir noch in Palm Cove verbringen, um den Weg nach Perth zurück zu schaffen.

    In quest of a job we made a short stopover in Townsville, here Sarah worked on a showground, a kind of funfair, on a kids ride.

    By the way now we have a fellow passenger, named "Kangy", we received it from Bianca as a gift :)

    Since two weeks now we're in the small tourist place Palm Cove, north of Cairns. Actually we just came here for work, cause Sarah is working in the Tropical Day Spa and Viktor is working in a smash repair shop.

    Here in the North it is very tropical, lots of palms, rain forest and warm sunny weather. For swimming in the sea, you should be aware of the jellyfish and crocodiles, but nevertheless you can cool off a bit and Viktor can even go for kitesurfing.
    Otherwise the so-called rockpools are suited for a refreshment, recently we have been for instance to the Jourama Falls, where we bathed under small waterfalls.

    We will stay for a bit longer in Palm Cove, so we can accomplish the way back to Perth.    Read more

    Reunion at Josephine Falls

    Am Wochenende hatten wir ein schönes Wiedersehen mit Freunden, die wir im März in Adelaide kennengelernt haben. Mit Fabian, Alex und Jae haben wir uns am "Golden Hole" Campingplatz getroffen, einen gemütlichen Abend am Lagerfeuer und einen schönen Tag an den "Josephine Falls" verbracht. Hier gibt es mehrere kleine und große Wasserfälle, wo man sogar teilweise auf den Steinen runterrutschen kann.

    Übrigens wohnen wir seit zwei Wochen in Cairns in einem Haus, was wir mit zwei weiteren Leuten teilen. Hier können wir kostenlos wohnen und dafür arbeiten wir ein bisschen im Garten und machen Reinigungsaufgaben. Viktor hat nun einen Job in Cairns in einer Kfz-Werkstatt gefunden und Sarah arbeitet weiterhin in Palm Cove.

    At the weekend we had a nice reunion with some friends, we've got to know in March in Adelaide. We met Fabian, Alex und Jae at the "Golden Hole" campground, we've spent a comfy evening on a campfire and a lovely day at the "Josephine Falls". Here are several small and big waterfalls, where you can partly even slide down the rocks.

    By the way, since two weeks we are staying in Cairns in a house, which we're sharing with two other people. We can stay for free here, in return we're doing some cleaning and gardening. Viktor has found a job now in Cairns in a car repair shop and Sarah is still working in Palm Cove.    Read more

    Great Barrier Reef Tour

    Nachdem wir gestern unseren letzten Arbeitstag in Cairns hatten, haben wir zum Abschluss eine Tauch- und Schnorchel Tour am Great Barrier Reef gebucht. Genauer gesagt, sind wir mit "Passions of Paradise" mit einem großen Catamaran zu zwei Stellen am "Hastings Reef" gefahren/teils gesegelt. Viktor hat einen Tauchgang gemacht und ansonsten haben wir geschnorchelt. Tausende bunte Fische in verschiedensten Größen, Korallen, Anemonen, Seesterne und einen Rochen konnten wir sehen.
    Das Great Barrier Reef erstreckt sich über mehr als 2000 km an der Küste vor Queensland und zählt zum Welterbe der UNESCO.
    Am Abend gab es dann noch ein letztes Abendessen mit Pam, Jacqui and Chris vom Tropical Day Spa in Palm Cove.

    Once we had our last day at work in Cairns, we've finally booked a scuba diving and snorkeling tour to the Great Barrier Reef. Or more specifically we've went/partly sailed with a big catamaran of "Passions of Paradise" to two places of the "Hastings Reef". Viktor did one scuba dive and otherwise we snorkeled. We've seen thousands​ of colourful fish in different sizes, corals, anemones, starfishes and a ray. The Great Barrier Reef extends over more than 2000 km along the coast of Queensland and appertains to the UNESCO World Heritage.
    In the evening we had a last dinner with Pam, Jacqui and Chris from the Tropical Day Spa in Palm Cove.    Read more
