    Auckland -Palmie

    July 12, 2023 in New Zealand ⋅ 🌬 13 °C

Just landed from HK into Auckland after 13hr flight ✈️. That was ok-ish
Hardly any sleep but the time passed!
We left Cecily & David who were off to an Air NZ lounge because they had a long wait for their Tauranga flight.
Back in Palmie, with welcome committee of Sue to take us home😊. Cool, but not actually raining.
Slow unpacking after eating the lovely lunch that Sue had provided.
    Washing pegged out under carport.
We lasted out until sleep couldn’t be ignored at 2000! I
Woke up at 0700 on Thursday when Euan decided that the rubbish bins needed to be put out 🤣
Back to the real world after an amazing time.

Breakfast with Lucy then HK airport

    July 11, 2023 in Hong Kong ⋅ ☀️ 32 °C

Breakfast with Lucy, then a short walk to the beach and pagoda and Lucy left for shower & work.
We packed up and took the ferry into Central. Cecily had to collect glasses from Fox Optical, so we left the blokes at Pret yet again, buying pastels de nata. Caught the mtr to airport and arrived very early.
Now waiting for the air nz desk to open!

    Last full day on Lamma

    July 10, 2023 in Hong Kong ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

Noisy night at The Bali Resort🤣. Other occupants were creating huge din till about 1.30 am.
Up for breakfast followed by coffee for David. (Cold drinks for the rest of us).
Ferry at 11.20am, to met Lucy & Dave for lunch. We had wontons and noodles in broth. Huge queue for the restaurant. The IFC has a tower with thousands of employees! The ideal is not to go looking for lunch when they have their lunch time🤣
We left C&D and went with Lucy to do a few messages with her.
Back on the ferry to give Sput his tennis balls! He almost shredded the first one. They need to be kept for the beach 🏝️ .
Dinner at Lucy & Dave’s tonight, delicious bbq with salad & veg. We have had such a lovely time with Lucy in Croatia, and with both of them on Lamma & HK😘

    Saturday on Lamma

    July 8, 2023 in Hong Kong ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

Caught the ferry into Lamma with Lucy & Cecily.
Appointments had been for Cecily’s shoulder so we took the ferry into Central. These were all achieved in no time. Dr and MRI all done by about 11am. Left Lucy to find a bookshop and visit the amazing supermarket, just inside the IFC. Actually, it’s a very rich persons shop that has fairly fab food. Not really our style of supermarket. A mini Moore Wilson’s but more niche🙂 and much more expensive!
We ended up back at Pret a Mange again, waiting for Lucy this time, and again trying to eke out lunch while the crowds came and went.
Ferry trip back, this time out of the freezing air con, outside on the back deck. That did prove to be not such a great suggestion of mine! Cecily & I nodded off with the heat , Humidity and rocking if the boat, (not old age)!
Photo of pomelo - we had a great pomelo salad at the Vietnamese restaurant last night. They cost about 50NZ dollars each.
At L&D’s for dinner tonight. I met the grand - dog Sputnik, Sput for short! I have previously only communicated with him on WhatsApp!
Dave did barbecuing of delicious NZ lamb rack and some pork cutlets, Lucy made her signature spiced chickpeas salad with lots of exciting goodies, plus roast veg! Delicious. Sput was very well behaved!

    Split to Frankfurt, then HK

    July 6, 2023 in Germany ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

We have had a waiting day! Firstly our little Air B&B turned out ok. It looked like a bunker from outside, but was suitably beach themed, this was aspirational as it was buried in the suburbs. It did have a jacuzzi.
🤣 Except for the uncomfortable pull-out couch Lucy slept on! Is there a comfy one in existence?
We wandered a couple of blocks and thanks to Lucy’s internet sleuthing we found a restaurant that wasn’t touristy. In fact, it could have been in NZ. Great pizza; three of us shared a 40 cm one. They did go up to one meter!!
We waited for the Uber to arrive🤞, then we waited at Split’s newish airport, A bit of clear air turbulence, but ok. Lovely short flight. I had a window seat so it was interesting seeing more of Europe as we headed to Frankfurt.
Now waiting for our 13hr flight to Hong Kong. We arrive at 3pm tomorrow! Debating when and what to have to eat meantime
Tracking our luggage with the luggage tracker!

Leaving Korcula by Ferry, night in Split

    July 5, 2023 in Croatia ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

Very slow morning getting to ready to transfer from Korcula to Split. We packed up and said our good byes to Marija our fabulous apartment owner; she has been so kind and accomodating, and her villa was great. A walk down the steps to the beach across the road! The weather was very warm, not that I am complaining.🤣 I should have got up at the crack of dawn or raced around after the sun had gone down! It was very relaxing. This is the second time we have stayed with Marija,. I can strongly recommend it! Pity it’s such a long way away!
Our catamaran trip to Split was excellent, due to the air con.
The Uber driver didn’t manage to quite pinpoint the Airbnb but we found it after calling the owner. Too hot to mess around!
We will be out foraging for dinner/restaurant tonight!
    Big trip starts tomorrow🤞

  • Day 65

    Last full day in Korcula

    July 4, 2023 in Croatia ⋅ 🌩️ 27 °C

    Last day of relaxation!
Euan and I walked into town, about 1.5 kms to get exercise, but by the time Euan was ready it was very hot!
About 5 am would be the ideal time! Still it’s very attractive. We had a bit of a look for a jewellery shop I had wanted to visit. For a small place, it has about a dozen! I think I must have got my islands muddled up, or it has closed up. No problem, bought food from Konzume, to which we add ‘Dam you’! This is the Croatian chain, with a monopoly, especially for tourists, we suspect. Korcula now has a couple of larger supermarket The trek home wasn’t any cooler or flatter🤣
Lunch and a swim. More people at our little beach, which is over the road from our apartment.
Taxi and dinner booked for 6pm. No idea why Marija stipulated this hour. The restaurant belongs to her brother & sister in law and is about 5 km away in the hills surrounded by a small hamlet. Lots of gardens, small vineyards etc. the garden was looking great. Huge tomatoes, aubergines, etc. They grow all their own produce etc.
Lucy & I had their seafood platter to share. Very nice, fish straight from the sea on the opposite coast. Korcula is only about 4ks wide and 50 kms long. Octopus very tender, prawns and sea bream etc. We were persuaded to order starters, veg, etc. I think it is called ‘up-selling’. It turned out to be our most expensive meal yet!! Home for a cuppa!

End of Boat/Bike Trip, off to Korcula

    June 30, 2023 in Croatia ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

Up very early. Poor sleep due to reoccurring nightmares about the catamaran luggage weight limit!
Last breakfast on board, farewells to crew & passengers, and Eke & Anton. Taxi van waiting to take us to Split pier 11 to catch Cat.
Huge queue, but we were first!
Just as well as with some assertiveness we scrambled on board and Cecily bagged good seats. I was relieved to see that there were larger bags than ours.
The two hour thirty minute trip went by in a flash as I looked out at the scenery.
Arrived in Korcula and did small amount of grocery shopping for lunch. Cecily & I dashed off trying to remember where Konzume, the mini supermarket was, only to discover that we had left the others in the shade with the bags outside a supermarket!
Maria our appointment owner had organised the taxi to collect us, and in the afternoon took Cecily & me to the large supermarket to stock up for several days. She is so helpful! We ran around her supermarket trying to read labels etc and grabbed good for three days. Patio time snd gazing at the beautiful view occurred till it was time to cook hamburgers. Korcula has been designated a recovery destination!!!

    Promisten to Trogir

    June 29, 2023 in Croatia ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

Up bright & early on the liveliest sunny day. (Yesterday was overcast at times!). We were rafted up to four other boats, and the next door boat creaked and groaned as the tide took the bumper fenders and rubbed them against the wooden rail of the next boat! Very noisy!
Still, it’s amazing how sunshine and a cup of tea improves the shining hour!

    Knoba night out in Skradin

    June 27, 2023 in Croatia ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

Catching up at the knoba . Local bar. Group invited out to have tapas together. It is a bar started by the owner’s father in law, and has been going for 60 yrs. It started because he invited his friends in for a drink. Then they eventually started to leave some money, so eventually he turned into a bar.
It was a great night with the Magellan passengers. Following this we had a recommendation from Stjephan for a cake that originated in the village Skradin, so we dashed off to another konoba/restaurant and Euan ordered one serving. Since there four of us the waitress bought out four forks! Now that’s what I call service. No snooty suggestions that we should all order etc. it was a delicious walnut & almond meal chocolate creation with a chocolate and praline top. Euan thanked the owner for the amazing cake! The owner then refused any payment! After this we came across the many of the boat/bikers, so naturally we sent them along. They had drunk lots of raki,
The poor owner would have been a
bit surprised that he suddenly had lots of cake sales at 11pm. We are stunned at how many of the locals are up and socialising at 11pm. Babies, young kids, the entire family. It’s school holidays now they have 10weeks off.
