Having done some research we decided that there wasn't much more we wanted to see in Paraguay, so we headed to the town on the Brazilian border, called Ciudad del Este (the Paraguayans showing a real lack of imagination when they wanted to change the name of the city from that of a dictator).
We decided to spend the night as there is an impressive waterfall nearby (that gets somewhat overlooked due to Iguazu being just across the border) and the Itaipu dam but more importantly for Kat, cheap shopping. She had lost her sunglasses so needed a new pair and she went on a spree from there using up all of our remaining Guarani.
That evening we were just settling down for our latest series before bed when the wind suddenly picked up. We knew what was coming but this was much bigger than the storm in Encarnación. Watching it safely from our room the wind whipped around and the lightning and thunder got closer. Soon it was right above us and some lighting took out the power. It soon calmed again but the power didn't return, so finally a chance to use the head torch I'd brought!Read more
