Flight to Bangkok

Once again we chose to fly with Etihad since they had a good price and we liked the service. Well, times changed here as well. Choosing seats next to each other would have been a premium seat choice for around 60 Euro. Thanks god the guy at the gates arranged it anyways.

In Abu Dhabi Steffi got a little bit sick. Luckily we were able to occupy a complete row in the plane so she was able to sleep.

Finally arrived in Bangkok and took the Bus to Khaosan road. Our hostel ‚Lamphu House’ is located close to the road yet in a very quiet location. Recommendation!En savoir plus

Kings Palace Bangkok

On Day 1 we started our tour with a small temple on the way to the Kings Palace. Afterwards we visited the Kings Palace which is quite impressive: Gold everywhere! Definitely a must see in Bangkok.

While visiting the Palace it started to rain heavily so we found cover and watched the people hiding from the rain.En savoir plus

A rainy walk to Maharaj

Quite close to the Palace there is a shopping area called Maharaj. To be honest there are not too many shops there but the view on the river is quite nice. Furthermore there is a need small restaurant called ‚Favour Coffee‘ which gave us the opportunity to relax and dry our clothes.En savoir plus

Asiatique The Riverfront

Back to our Hostel we did some search for a night market and found Asiatique as a nice place to visit. The first Taxi driver wanted to charged us a fixed price of 450 baht so we changed the taxi. The second driver offered us 200 baht. Still too much as we found out later.

The Asiatique is a nice night market embedded into a modern looking building complex. Nevertheless the prices were good and the food was affordable. From there we walked along the river and watched people hanging out. Our taxi back to the hostel was only 85 Baht... so now we know how the prices are:
35 Baht as start amount and around 5 Baht per Kilometer.En savoir plus

Golden Mount

Today we set up the alarm clock for 9 o‘clock ( it was a little bit late yesterday ). Unfortunately the fan in the room was so loud, we did not recognise the alert. So woke up at 10:07 and started the day with Banana pancakes in the Hostel.
After that we tried to catch a Tuc tuc from Khaosan road to the Golden Mount. They offered us 300 baht or more for 1 km of driving. We denied and walked.

The Golden Mount is an artificial Hill with a nice temple on top of it. See the pictures and visit the temple. ;)En savoir plus

Loha Prasart Temple

What is special of this temple? Well first of all it is on the opposite side of the street when visiting the golden mount. But besides to this you will find a one-of-a-kind temple. Very refreshing when you saw some temples and get the ‚isn‘t it always the same?‘-Feeling.En savoir plus

Jour 4
With a lot of legroom to Cambodia

Early in the morning at 7:15 we jumped into a bus booked via 12go Asia. The Bus Agency is called Giant Ibis and the service was really great including a lot of legroom, breakfast and a lunch on the 9 hours of bus ride.

The transit on the border was adventurous and thanks god the agency did all the Visa Stuff. Finally we arrived at smileys guest house and have a room with AC for a really good price and not too far from the center of Siem Reap.

Our first impressions of Siem Reap are:

Very friendly people but Very expensive food prices. The night market was really nice and tomorrow we will start to Angkor Wat.En savoir plus

Hello Angkor Wat

Today we started our first tour to Angkor Wat. Quite expensive tour to be honest:
The Tuk Tuk driver ( motorbikes are illegal for foreigners ) charged us 20$ for a day. The entrance fee to Angkor Wat is 62$ for 3 days.
Nevertheless the experience was awesome. Angkor Wat is really outstanding and I guess it is a unique place in the world. See the pictures to get a deeper feeling.En savoir plus

Trip to Angkor and Lake Tonle Sap

After our one day in bed we felt fit enough to start a second tour today. We visited some more temples in the northern part of Angkor and afterwards we went down to lake Tonle Sap in order to take a boat tour. We were pretty surprised by the prices they wanted to charge us: 25$ per person. Since we found this price to high for a boat tour we told the guy at the ticket counter that we won‘t pay that much. After a few minutes they offered us another price of 20$. Still quite high but since we already spent some money for our trip down there we decided to agree.

The boat took us down the river through the village on the river and we had a short stop at a restaurant in the river where they offered us another boat tour with some old ladies for additional 5$ per person. We would have loved to do this tour but we where not willing to spend another 10$ ( especially since we only had 4 $ left ).
So we went on with our boat which took us to the lake. A pretty big lake where you can not see any border.

After that the boat took us back to the port. A tour of about 1 hour for 20$... still a pretty high price in our eyes when you know how much they do usually earn.

In general the difference between the standard price for local food and living compared to the touristic fees is too high in our eyes:
Local food: 2 $
3-days ticket for Angkor Watt: 62$
1 hour boat tour: 25$

Compared to Germany it would mean you have to pay 80€ for a 1 hour boat tour and 248€ for a 3 day ticket when calculating a standard food with around 8€. The span is just way too high.En savoir plus
