    Sprung in den Atlantik

    January 2 in Portugal

    September 13 in Portugal

    July 15, 2017 in Portugal

After checking out from our accomodation, and before heading off to Vila Nova de Milfontes we wanted to check the next town (Figueira) and its beach. Since the beaches aren't signposted in this (non-touristic) town, we had to ask for help too find them. There are 2 beaches, one where you drive and then walk a fair bit, and another where it is possible to drive (Furnas), we choose the latter. It's a fair drive down a largely unsealed road to a dirt carpark with a number of cameras (some of the Beachnick variety), but the beach is large, very pretty and really unspoiled. We liked it.Read more

    Salema, Portugal

    July 12, 2017 in Portugal

We left Seville at about lunchtime in our Sixt hire car, with over 40 degree temperature. We travelelled for a bit over 3 hours and arrived late afternoon at this still relatively undeveloped part of the Algave. Our BnB (Casa A. Mare) is quaint and close to the beach - it's just a few minutes walk away. After an arrival glass of red on the sundeck, we walked to check out the beach. It's pretty enough but not especially amazing (after our great beaches at home). Annette out her feet in and instantly complained about the cold water. Mmmm...I have to agree; it's much colder than Cadiz! Strangely, restaurant prices here seem to exceed Spanish prices, although Portugal is reputedly cheaper. It still seems to be 'tourist town' notwithstanding the general absence of high rise...although there is a local monstrosity of 5 stories that seems a blight on this small village, plonked in a premier position blocking the views of many (Hotel Residencial)..Read more

    July 13, 2017 in Portugal

Today was a day of R-E-L-A-X-A-T-I-O-N...We both felt we needed one. We spent most of the day on the shaded deck in front of our room, had a siesta etc. At night we had a Cataplana at Restaurant O Lourenco (kindly booked for us by our host Bettina, who recommended this place). Cataplana The Cataplana is traditionally made of copper and shaped like two clamshells hinged at one end and able to be sealed using a clamp on either side of the assembly. Its said to be popular on the Algave to cook seafood dishes.Read more

    August 9, 2017 in Portugal
