Marinha Beach, Carvoeiro & Portimao

Checked out of our air bnb this morning, headed for Portimão (only a short drive) where we are staying tonight. Packed our lunch and snacks ready for a beach day!
📍 First stop was Marinha Beach, stunning beach among huge cliffs. Really picturesque! It was super busy because it was a Sunday, so took a while to find a park. We walked down a huge set of stairs to get to the beach, the cliffs were so pretty! We relaxed here for a couple of hours 🌊
📍 Second stop was Carvoeiro, a much smaller town in between Albufeira & Portimão. We loved the vibe of this place! It was much more relaxed and slow paced. So many cute restaurants, cafes and bars in the main strip leading to the small beach that was like a little cove. Didn’t seem commercialised at all like Albufeira old town! Spent most of the arvo on the beach, swimming and relaxing. Wish we booked our accom here as it was way more us 🤣
📍 Checked into our air bnb at Portimão, really gorgeous accom and lovely Italian hosts. We have the whole downstairs area with a seperate entry. Super clean and comfortable! Portimão is a much larger city with heaps of hotels. Not exactly a small town vibe at all but as we have a car it’s central to the Algarve and we can drive everywhere!
📍 Seeing as Portimão is renowned for its shopping, I thought I would check out the big shopping center. They had Sephora and Mecca which kept me occupied for a while 🤣 Got myself some new bathers from the H&M, they had so much nice stuff compared to Oz
📍 Dinner @ Churrasqueira Guerreiro, apparently the best Portuguese chicken in Portimão! Google reviews did not lie, wowee it was delicious!!! You could see the huge bbq where they were cooking all the chicken on the coals 🐔 It was absolutely packed and all locals, I think we were the only non Portuguese speaking in the whole place. No menus, the waiter just said “you having chicken? its our speciality” haha 😆 literally probably best food we’ve had in Portugal! They also gave me a rose when we were leaving, apparently it’s Mother’s Day in Portugal! 🌹
📍 Drove to a small village next to Portimão called Alvor for a walk. Super cute fishing village with little seafood restaurants all along the waterfront, you could see (and smell) them cooking the food on the barbecues. Behind this was all the narrow cobble stone streets packed with old school bars, restaurants, cafes and gelato shops🍦
