      Singapore Zoo

      We went to the Zoo yesterday! Keeping up Claires travel tradition made her fall into french mode right upon entering the Zoo. The Zoo was pretty cool - except for the daily Singapore rain which trapped us inside a food court (OH NO) for like 2 hours. With the climate they have you can imagine the alleys full of green vegetation always giving you the feeling to be in a (very clean and tidy) jungle. The zoo is actually located within one of the few areas in Singapore where there still is primary rain forest. But of course this very part is not natural anymore. We saw some decent shows but what was more fun was the Night Safari. An extra zoo which you can only visit after sunset at 7.30pm as all their nocturnal animals are most active at this time. A zoo in the dark is a nice thing. So you can go see a tiger being fed really close. It was like just 1 meter away, only separated through a thick layer of glass. The African Lion is definitely more impressive than the Asian one. With the low light and when not moving, the animals sometimes looked as they were stuffed. And most importantly, we saw a Slow Loris (!!) climbing a branch just in front of us very slowly of course.

      Was für ein Start!
      Schöner Flughafen, netter Taxifahrer und dann... Wir dürfen bei Cristina und Jorge wohnen. Mitten im Zentrum von Singapur, 28. Stock, Wahnsinnsaussicht, sogar ein eigenes Zimmer und Badezimmer... Plus die zwei kleinen Zuckerschnecken Lucile und Emily...
      "Natürlich" gibt es auch einen riesigen Pool, Fitnessstudio und ??? : eine offizielle Yoga- Ecke. Während meine Mutter direkt in den Pool hüpft, verschiebe ich Yoga erst einmal auf morgen...      Read more

      Little india, singapore

      Committed the ultimate sin this morning... I went to starbucks for a coffee. I had to, there was no red coffee van at the end of the road, and this was the only option for a vanilla latte.

      Went to mustafa's bazaar. Tacky shit, more tacky shit and some useful tacky shit, the latter of which i bought. I did manage to replace my ailing eyeliner.

      After a couple of hours of retail therapy, I walked around the streets of little india and went to a hawker food centre. These places are a crazy myriad of smell, sound and sight. Follow the crowds for the most popular food or in my case, look for the best banana smoothie lookalike picture. I pointed to a banana lassi only to be told by the proprietor that they were 'out of banana'. I said 'ok thank you anyway' and started to move on only to be stopped by the other owner who said 'no, i go buy you a banana!'. 2 minutes later, i had an 'oh my gosh, that couldn't taste better' banana lassi.

      This evening, i am going to dinner with my friend from the plane and her husband. I have no smart shoes. Bugger. Best go shopping. Bye

      P.s. See the picture of the 'martin shuffle'. This is the singaporean sense of humour (yumour if you're kath) encouraging passengers to move along on train carriages. I'd love it if anyone could physicalise this move and send a video...      Read more

      Nightzoo

      Wir waren gestern zum Abschluss unseres Singapuraufenthaltes zur Nightsafari im Zoo von Singapur. Hauptsächlich weil wir Mia einen Freude machen sollten. Tja was soll ich sagen... Kann man machen. Muss man aber nicht.

      Der Preis alleine ist da nicht einmal das Problem sondern die Massen an Menschen. Ich war damit richtig überfordert. Überall anstehen und warten und meine Stimmung war im Keller.

      Die Rundfahrt selbst in der Nacht durch den Zoo war sehenswert und wirklich cool. Mia war happy. Nur bei Alex war der Spaß vorbei, wo er sich 23 Uhr noch ein Bier in 7Eleven kaufen wollte und ihm keins ausgehändigt wurde. Ab 22.30 Uhr darf kein Alkohol mehr in Supermärkten verkauft werden. 🤣      Read more

      Das moderne Singapur

      Heute sind wir durch Singapur gelaufen. Nach dem wir uns gestern das traditionelle Singapur angeschaut haben, sind wir heute durch das moderne Singapur gelaufen. Wir haben das berühmte Hotel der Instagram-Influencer gefunden und besichtigt. Natürlich waren wir nicht in dem großen Infinitypool, weil der richtig teuer ist.
      Singapur ist eine sehr schöne Stadt und lebt von den großen Gegensätzen die diese Stadt bzw. das Land zu bieten hat. Diese Gegensätze macht das Land sehr interessant.      Read more

      Vrije dag in Singapore

      Vandaag kregen de deelnemers een vrije dag in Singapore, en konden ze kiezen waar ze hun tijd aan spendeerden. Dat betekende voor sommige rustig opstaan en de stad intrekken, voor andere vroeg opstaan om de beroemde Singapore Zoo te gaan verkennen. Zelf moest ik eerst de bustickets gaan bestellen voor de rit van morgen, en daarna nog wat administratie en afspraken nagaan voor de volgende dagen. Tussenin boekte ik ook nog snel even mijn vlucht naar Cambodja, zodat ik na deze trip nog vijf dagen tot rust kan komen vlakbij Angkor Wat.

      In de namiddag nam ik ook de bus richting zoo, en ging nog mee naar het deel River Safari. Dit deel van de zoo is gewijd aan het rivierleven, en was ronduit indrukwekkend.

      S avonds waren we nog net op tijd voor de lichtshow spectra, en dat was letterlijk een kippenvel moment. Zodra de lichtshow begon, speelde de muziek van Two steps from hell, mijn favoriete muziek! Dat kwam zo onverwacht en maakte het geheel zo fantastisch af dat ik mijn tranen nauwelijks kon bedwingen van ontroering. Een onvergetelijk moment..

      Aangezien mijn deelnemers even genoeg hadden van het Aziatische eten, sloten we de dag af in een Italiaan. Moe maar voldaan huiswaarts op onze laatste avond in Singapore..      Read more

      3 Zoos Pt 3

      At 3:29 it started to rain and the 3:30 Orangutan feeding was cancelled. Then it started to pour and it became a heat storm full of lighting and thunder. There was a man and a woman I met when watching the chimpanzees earlier who met while traveling and are now just travel buddies who only meet up when they don’t have someone to travel with. We were all disappointed about the storm but we sat and talked for the hour while it stormed until they left the zoo and I went to meet M for the River Safari. The River Safari was a separate entrance that took you through different species of different rivers around the world, plus pandas, though one was hiding. We also got a boat ride on the reservoir and I saw the “Maned Wolf”, an animal I didn’t know existed which is stunning! We wrapped up the night at the Night Safari. The Night Safari was yet another zoo which opened from 7:15pm to 12am only. Of course this zoo showcased nocturnal animals. We saw the Fishing Cat in action, a sloth bear that wanted to eat us, bats, a white lion and Asian lions, Asian elephants, leopards, pangolin, and some others I never heard of. The zoo was really awesome though and felt like we were really in the wild and could actually see the animals in action.Read more

      Immer noch in Singapur

      Samstag: Heute waren wir im Zoo. Ich mag keine Zoos! Daher wollte ich erstmal auch gar nicht dahin. Aber schließlich konnte Yannik mich dann doch noch überreden und für einen Zoo war es auch ganz ok. Es gibt viele kleinere Tiere wie „Mini Monkeys“ und Lemuren, die sich im ganzen Zoo frei bewegen können. Anfassen und füttern ist natürlich verboten. Aber auch die Orang-Utans konnten sich in einem gewissem Raum ohne Zäune bewegen. Außerdem sind fast alle Gehege wirklich groß und die Tiere haben einen großen Auslauf. Mein Lieblingstiere waren hier die Otter, sie sahen am glücklichsten aus. Wobei das Schmetterlingshaus auch toll war. Dort haben nebenan Faultiere, andere Lemuren und riesige(!) Fledermäuse gewohnt.

      Nachmittags waren wir auf der Orchard Rd, wo wir uns die Malls angeguckt haben. Diese sind fast alle miteinander verbunden und eine der Lieblingsbeschäftigung der Singapurianer. Außerdem haben wir bei McDonalds Durian Eis probiert. Der Geschmack an sich ist gar nicht so schlecht, aber der Geruch ist wirklich schlimm. Das Eis hat gestunken, mir war bis zu diesem Zeitpunkt gar nicht klar, dass das überhaupt möglich ist.

      Sonntag: Wir waren mit Ronnie, Gloria und den Jungs brunchen. Uns wurde geraten das Toast zu probiere... und es war überraschend lecker. Auf dem Toast war sehr salzige Butter und darauf eine Schicht Marmelade mit Kokosnuss Geschmack. Leider haben wir den Namen vergessen.
