L’altro ieri sera sono arrivata a Flores, ieri sono partita presto per un giro di due giorni per raggiungere il villaggio di Wae Rebo, dove abbiamo passato la notte nelle case tipiche del Villaggio.
Wae Rebo è ha 4 ore di viaggio da Labuanbajo, su delle strade terribili e in pessime condizioni. Durante il viaggio d’andata ho anche fatto il mio primo “incidente” in scooter, scivolando nel fango. Per fortuna non ci siamo fatto niente.
Arrivati al parcheggio abbiamo dovuto camminare per un’ora e mezza, ma durantenla scalata abbiamo incontrato il diluvio universale e siamo arrivati in cima bagnati fradici.
Un po’ demotivata abbiamo fatto il rito di benedizione per poter accedere al villaggio e poi ci siamo cambiati (io ed April la mia guida).
Abbiamo passato il pomeriggio nella topica casa di Wae Rebo perche purtroppo pioveva e non potevamo fare chissà che giro della zona, ma quando ha smesso un po, abbiamo potuto scattare una qualche foto.

Le case sono circolari a forma di cono e sono costruite con 5 piani all’interno, cosicché i piani superiori (dal secondo al quinto) possano venire utilizzati per lo stoccaggio del cibo. Il pianoterra è invece dove vivono da 5 a 8 famiglie, a dipendenza di quanto grandi sono le case.

Questo era un villaggio molto povero, spesso la gente non aveva i soldi per comperare il riso o mandare i figli a scuola. Perciò un giorno venne l’idea di adibire una delle loro case come posto dove i turisti potessero venire a visitare, mangiare o bere qualcosa e anche dormire la notte, così facendo ottengono i soldi per avere una vita migliore (anche grazie al fatto che sono patrimonio dell’ Unesco).
Noi abbiamo passato la notte qui assieme ad un gruppo di ragazze e ragazzi di Java in vacanza e una ragazza di New York - almeno non ero l’unica non-indonesiana 😂.
Abbiamo mangiato quello che mangia la gente del posto (riso e verdure e uova) e chiacchierato tra di noi, imparando molto sui musulmani, dato che gli ho posto diverse domande sulla loro religione.
La notte è stata abbastanza tranquilla anche se c’erano i galli che cantavano già alle 3 del mattino.
La mattina dopo colazione ci siamo preparati e siamo ritornati a valle assieme ad un ragazzo che abbiamo conosciuto al villaggio, con il quale abbiamo fatto anche il viaggio di ritorno verso Labuanbajo.
È stata una bella esperienza anche se il viaggio per arrivare e per tornare è stato molto tosto.

The day before last I arrived in Flores, yesterday I left early for a two-day tour to reach the village of Wae Rebo, where we spent the night in the typical houses of the village.
Wae Rebo is a 4 hour drive from Labuanbajo, on terrible roads and in very poor condition. During the outward journey I also had my first scooter "accident", slipping in the mud. Luckily we didn't do anything to ourselves.
Once we arrived at the car park we had to walk for an hour and a half, but during the climb we encountered aa big rain shower and we arrived at the top soaking wet.
A little demotivated we did the blessing ritual to be able to access the village and then we changed (me and April my guide).
We spent the afternoon in Wae Rebo's charming house because unfortunately it was raining and we couldn't do much walking around the area, but when it stopped a bit, we were able to take some photos.

The houses are circular in the shape of a cone and are built with 5 floors inside, so that the upper floors (from the second to the fifth) can be used for food storage. The ground floor is where 5 to 8 families live, depending on how large the houses are.

This was a very poor village, people often didn't have the money to buy rice or send their children to school. So one day the idea came of using one of their houses as a place where tourists could come and visit, eat or drink something and even sleep at night, by doing so they get the money to have a better life (also thanks to the fact that they are UNESCO heritage).
We spent the night here together with a group of girls and boys from Java on holiday and a girl from New York - at least I wasn't the only non-Indonesian 😂.
We ate what the locals eat (rice and vegetables and eggs) and chatted among ourselves, learning a lot about Muslims as I asked them several questions about their religion.
The night was quite quiet even though there were roosters crowing already at 3 in the morning.
The morning after breakfast we got ready and returned to the valley together with a boy we met in the village, with whom we also made the return journey to Labuanbajo.
It was a great experience even if the journey to get there and back was very tough.Läs mer
