      Days ??? Logroño-Navarrete-Azofra-Santo

      The last several days are a bit of a blur. The preplanned next leg was to walk Logroño to Nájera, which is almost 18 miles. I just didn’t feel up to walking that far again, so I did what I thought would be an easy 8 miles. It felt like it lasted forever! In retrospect, I don’t think I gave the distance the credit it deserved- 8 miles isn’t nothing!

      Upon entering Navarrete, I ran into some Camino friends. We had a nice time sitting on the terrace and relaxing. Talking with one of them made me consider more what I want this Camino to look like- why am I here, what do I want to get out of it? It’s hard to think much while walking because I’m constantly paying attention to details- am I developing any hot spots on my feet? Did I miss a sign for the path? How much further should I go before I take break? What am I going to eat and where am I going to sleep tonight? Plus the frequent self talk of “you can do this!” In speaking with her, I’m realizing that it’s less important for me to walk every step of this path and more important for me to have that time to think and pray. I’m learning that my ideal distance is 8-13 miles in a day, so I think I’ll be cutting a fair amount of the Camino out along the way.

      I’m more than 25% done with the Camino and have walked more than 100 miles so far. Tonight I’m staying in a hostal with a couple of Camino friends- we have comfy beds and our own bathroom! I walked 10 miles this morning in about 3.5 hours- I’m not a fast walker by Camino standards, but I never thought I’d be thinking of 10 miles as an “easy” walk.      Read more

      Tag 15 von de la Calzada nach Belorado

      Der Tag heute führte an Der Autobahn und dann auf der Straße entlang. Natürlich war die Landschaft wieder abwechslungsreich. Die Alberge ist wieder sehr schön und hat einen Pool. Was bei 12 Euro nicht selbstverständlich ist. So nun habe ich auch meine erste Blase. Zum Glück nur eine kleine. Belorado ist eine kleine etwas verschlafene Ortschaft. Die aber zu gefallen weiß. Heute geht es früh ins Bett ! Morgen stehen 30 km auf dem Programm und das bei 30 Grad im Schatten das heißt früh loss. Aber fas schaffe ich schon. Bin ja nicht aus Zucker. 😃😃😃Read more

      Granon - Dunkelheit und Licht

      Dunkelheit! Merkwürdig mehrfach heute ein Thema.

      In Dunkelheit aufgewacht um 4:20. Aufgestanden und gepackt, geraucht, 2 Kaffee und kurz vor sechs in Dunkelheit aufgebrochen.

      In Nejera wars bei Straßenbeleuchtung schon echt ne Herausforderung die Zeichen für den Weg zu finden und als das Dorf zu Ende war, ging es in den Wald und dann war gar nix mehr zu sehen. 🤔->💡 : stimmt ich habe doch so ne LED Stirnlampe. Auch damit war es echt herausfordernd. Gegen sieben kam das Morgengrauen und dann war ich echt happy, dass ich wenigstens die Orientierung wieder hatte. 😥

      Im nächsten Dorf erstmal nen Kaffee und bin dann n paar km mit nem Stuttgarter gelaufen und irgendwann trennten sich die Wege aber Gesprächsthemen waren gut. Irgendwann wurde ich schlapp, müde, energielos und bin dann immer langsamer geworden. Na toll! Ne Erkältung, 😱😱😱 was ist wenn ich mich in diesen Herbergen oder bei der Anreise mit Corona.......

      Alles an Müsliriegel, Traubenzucker, Mentos gemampft und langsam langsam langsam gelaufen. Im nächsten Dorf kein Geschäft irgendwie ne Orange oder nen Apfel kaufen, Vitamine erst nach weiteren 12km gab's dann endlich nen Supermarkt. Eingekauft... Noch mehr zum schleppen.

      Um halb zwölf habe ich das heutige Etappenziel schon erreicht und dann kam Regen, Regen Regen. Jetzt schon in die Herberge? Oder Regenkleidung an und weiter? 🙄 🤔

      Was essen wollt ich, erst ab halb eins ☹️😡

      Ich hatte die Idee. Kauf jetzt n Zelt und schlaf heute Nacht bei Gewitter irgendwo in der Natur. Auch das gab es im Ort nicht zu kaufen 😭😭😭

      Nächster Ort Granon in 6,4km. Ok lets go.

      Und siehe da, nun hab ich die wohl speziellste Übernachtung überhaupt gefunden 😳

      Ich schlafe für eine Spende im Dachboden über dem Kirchenschiff in einer auf ner Matte wie beim Bodenturnen mit insgesamt 12 Leuten. Um 20 Uhr ist gemeinsames Abendessen und meine Matte liegt direkt unterm Dachfenster. Vielleicht hab ich Glück und seh heute Nacht noch einen Sternenhimmel 🎆😋

      Echt krass wie sich hier jeder Tag ergibt, und ich bin gerade mal eine Woche unterwegs und bin jetzt schon echt baff.

      Heute Nacht schlaf ich in Geborgenheit ✝

      Jetzt war ich Mittagessen und später vielleicht noch mehr von mir hier.

      Ich liebe das Leben 😔😍

      Am Abend wurden wir bekocht - umsonst - nochmal drei Gänge - Suppe, Hähnchenkeule, Yogurth - und dann viele Hände, schnelles Ende

      Vorher waren wir noch in einer katholischen Messe. Leider kein Wort verstanden, aber interessant.

      Im Anschluss nach dem Essen war noch eine Pilgerandacht und eine Kerze ging rum, für Danke und Wünsche für den Weg und dann noch ne Umarmung 🤗 mit jedem.

      Los Arcos to Logroño

      117 miles done. 383 to go.

      Lunch was “the pilgrim’s meal” as typically served in establishments along the Camino. Huge salad with a local cheese selection, perfectly breaded chicken breast with potatoes, a flambéed apple dessert, espresso, AND an entire bottle of local sauvignon blanc. 15 euros! That’s crazy, right? I only had two glasses of wine from the bottle because I still had 6 miles of walking post-lunch.

      Listened to 7 chapters of Nadia Bolz Weber’s audiobook, Shameless, while walking this morning and afternoon. There’s so much that resonates with memories of my upbringing in nondenominational churches in the 80s and 90s and thus my theological understanding shaped by purity culture, “kissing dating goodby,” WWJD, and then 8 years of reparative therapy that I was a part of, between Illinois and Colorado, by my own volition. There’s a lot to unpack with this book/audiobook, and if you’ve had a similar journey and would find it helpful to ever talk about God, faith, sexuality, fear, shame, etc., I’m glad to listen and share our life experiences together. I’m very grateful to those along the way that have been a lifeline to me… some of you who might read this know that you have been that for me, then, and still now. Thank you.

      Today was a super long walking day. Not challenging in the ascents and descents, but challenging in length… stamina of keeping moving over the long distance. I’ve started to notice others who are walking the Camino route limping, slowing down, taking more breaks, and changing out bloody bandages on their feet. I’m grateful my feet are holding up so far, though I’m prepared in case I start to get blisters or hurt myself. I’ve got my routine of stretching, massaging my feet and calves, and applying body glide where I’m feeling the rub. It’s worked…so far.

      But, in all the care for my feet, I neglected to care for the rest of me. And I got sunburned on the backs of my calves after hiking my pants up in the afternoon heat AND I had some sort of allergic reaction to the hotel soap this afternoon. So, there’s that. Not a fun combo. 😞 I gotta be more careful!

      Also, they mix red wine and Coca-Cola here as a cocktail. Kalimotxo is what it is called.

      What a day! 🌄 Covered 29km from Los Arcos to Logroño and was greeted by the most amazing pink sunrise. It felt like nature played florist, blessing us with gorgeous views all along the way. 🌸🌿 After trekking from an okay room last night, we've arrived at a beautiful spot to rest. Now showered and rejuvenated, we're ready to explore the city and enjoy some delicious dinner. Can't wait to see what Logroño has to offer!Read more

      Left Logrono 6.45 am arrived Navarrete 11.45am
      12.5ks today. It is our rest day.
      Very little signposts to show the way out of Navarete this morning. It took 45 minutes to get out to the city fringe. We walked mostly on paved footpaths today, very hard on our feet. We need to get some washing up to date and have time to rejuvenate.
      We have noticed that the locals are very helpful, and even though the language barrier is there, we get ourselves understood. Lots of laughter.

      Von torres del rios na logroño

      Hola a todas. Heute möchte ich euch das nächste Abenteur von torres del rios nach logroño mitteilen. Wir sind um 7 Uhr von torres del rios gestartet und wieder durch die traumhaften Landschaften von Navarra gepilgert. Ausserdem durften wir den Sonnenaufgang erleben. Der camino führte uns durch das mittelalterliche Dörfchen Viana mit eine wunderschönen Kirche. Am Ende dieser Etappe sind wir in das comunidat Leon übergegangen und Navarro verlassen. Fazit des Tages: Es gibt immer wieder neues zu erleben. Buen camino.Read more

      Olive trees! There are tons here and they make the most tasty oil. We decides not to take a rest day tomorrow so we walked only 18 km today. Checked in just after noon. Tomorrow we plan on 20km. We are just not sure what shape we'll be in if we do the 28km scheduled.Read more

      100 Mile Celebration!! 🥾🍾🙌🏼🇪🇸🎊

      Villamayor de Monjardín to Viana
      Day #7 - 100 mile celebration!!! 🎉Today was a total grind but we knocked out a whopping 32k (20 miles!) 👊🏻

      Despite our initial plans yesterday, we were feeling pretty good when we reached the 20k town of Torres del Rio so we decided to push another 10k more through the wind & rain to the next town of Viana. Little did we know how strenuous that last 10.4k would be with many steep ups and downs along the way.

      Our bodies and minds are spent so tonight we treated ourselves to a private hotel room tonight with fuzzy blanks and a noon checkout!!! It even has a bathtub… oh the luxury!!!      Read more
