  • Koh Lipe

    4 января 2023 г., Таиланд ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

9 a.m. - I extended my stay on Koh Lipe and got some money from the ATM.

11 a.m. - I decided to do beach day so I bought some snacks. I went to a beach which I found at my first day. I was really quite there and the best thing was that there was shade. I relaxe there almost the hole day, got tanned, could finally read some sites in my book and furthermore a bird thought it is funny to shit on my head.

4:30 p.m. - It got cloudy and looked like rain so I went back to my accommodation. On the way back I saw that the prepared a wedding at the beach and I got a pizza slice. It was the best pizza I had so far especially the dough.

6:30 - I went out to an Indian restaurant for dinner. It was really busy but I was lucky and got a table but anyways I had to wait 45 minutes for my food. But it was worth it. Later at the evening I went for another walk at the beach to see the glowing plankton. I saw some but not a lot and it was impossible to capture it on a photo but anyways it was amazing and I must be gorgeous when there is more.

P.S.: Italian and Indian cuisine are my favorites.

    5 января 2023 г., Таиланд ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

9 a.m. - I booked my transfer to Langkawi in Malaysia and got some fancy breakfast afterwards.

11 a.m. - I went to the beach from yesterday because I planned another beach day. Suddenly Emma messaged me if I want to join them for a day trip Koh Adang. Another island near Koh Lipe. I joined them and we wanted to visit the waterfall there but the path wasn’t clear and we almost got lost so we decided to turn around. Instead we went to the beach and we got the hole beach just for us. It was super quite and calm. After we got some lunch we went snorkeling but it wasn’t good just sand and less corals or sea life. A local recommended us the other side of the beach for snorkeling. And it was way better. There was a hard coral reef and I saw too many Boxfish to count, some Pufferfish and Batfish.

5 p.m. - We got back to Koh Lipe and I had a phone call with my mum.

6 p.m. - I went out again for the sunset but it was disappointing so went back to a soccer field I saw on the way to the Sunset Beach to play some soccer with the locals. I played almost 2h and it was so fun. I mean the quality wasn’t that good because everyone did his own thing but I enjoyed to place soccer after a long time. The only problem was that I played barefoot of artificial grass.

8:30 p.m. - I was sweaty as fuck and my feet’s were black and hurt really bad. I got dinner and went back to the hostel afterwards. I took a shower and had a phone call with my mate.

  • Koh Lipe -> Langkawi

    6 января 2023 г., Малайзия ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

8 a.m. - I packed my bag in the morning got breakfast afterwards and went to immigration center to get my ticket to Langkawi. It was really chaotic and they didn’t had any structure.
    chaotic, lost my sunglasses somewhere

9 a.m. - I needed to go to another immigration office to get my stamp and they keep my passport until we where on the boat. Afterwards I was waiting and the chaos continued. Furthermore I lost my sunglasses somewhere.

11 a.m. - We departure to Langkawi in Malaysia and I got my passport back.

1:30 p.m. - We arrived at the pier in Langkawi. Malaysia has another Timezone so it’s +1 hour to Thailand and +7h to back home.

3 p.m. - It took quite a while to cross the border just because the worked really slowly. I hadn’t and problems got my stamp, fingerprints and a photo that’s it. Later I
arrived finally in my hostel. At first I needed to get some cash from the ATM and bought a Sim Card. Furthermore I bought some new sunglasses and got some disgusting Indian food for lunch.

5 p.m. - The hostel was really nice, amazing people, amazing vibe. Played some UNO later.

8 p.m. - Afterwards we went out to a little nightmarket for dinner and I tried my first Malaysian food. Later all met up in the hostel to play pool, cards or chat.

    Summary:
I don’t know what to say about Koh Phi Phi but pictures say more than words. Beautiful island, with white and soft beaches, amazing water quality and perfect for snorkeling or scuba diving. It reminded me a bit of Koh Phi Phi with less party and a loft of scooter taxis although everything is walkable.

    7 января 2023 г., Малайзия ⋅ 🌧 23 °C

10 a.m. - After I woke up I got some breakfast & coffee with the guys I chilled yesterday.

12 p.m. - Later we ordered some cheep but good lunch. Really simple just chicken and rice but good and we planned the rest of our day.

1 p.m. - Lars, Matt, Eva, Sabrina and I went to the steepest cable car in the world which Doppelmayr built. It was quite weird to see a cable car in the rainforest but you have a good view when it’s not too cloudy. Furthermore you can go to the sky bridge and there are some more tickets in the price included for example a 3D museum.

4:30 p.m. - Afterwards we went to a waterfall not far from the cable car. And got lost on the way home but so we could see a bit more from the nature.

6 p.m. - We arrived back in the hostel chilled a bit and got a fresh shower.

7 p.m. - Later we went for the sunset which was really nice.

10 p.m. - The rest of the evening we chilled in the hostel and played some cards. There I also met Mark and Maricruz.

    8 января 2023 г., Малайзия ⋅ 🌧 26 °C

10 a.m. - I went for breakfast with the guys from yesterday. Always Roti with egg. Afterwards I gave up my laundry.

12 p.m. - Mark had some knowledge about Langkawi because he has been her already a couple of times so he was our tour guide. At first we went to another waterfall on the other side of the island. Honestly the waterfall was the first nice one.

2:30 p.m. - Afterwards we went to the best beach of Langkawi and met Eva and Matt there. Just chilled a bit and played some volleyball.

5 p.m. - Later we headed back to the hostel because it was a really long drive.

7 p.m. - We went for sunset again but unfortunately it was really shit. At least we saw the shy monkeys with the white glasses around their eyes.

8 p.m. - Mark made a reservation in a really good restaurant in Kuah. We ordered some plates and shared. We got different fish, some fried rice with seafood, vegetables, chicken and some beers. By far the best food I had so far.

10:30 - On the way back we turned the Grab into a carpool. It was a lot of fun but I got a bad headache and chilled for the rest of the evening.

    9 января 2023 г., Малайзия ⋅ 🌧 27 °C

11 a.m. - Got some nice coffee in the morning and we wanted to go to our breakfast place where we ate good Roti with egg the last days but unfortunately the close earlier.

1:30 p.m. - Later I went to Mci for the first time in a while because I decided spontaneously to join the others for a boat trip.

2 p.m. - We got picked up for the boat tour. We first went to the pregnant lady. It’s a rock formation which looks like a pregnant lady. There is also a lake where we swam and the legend say’s the chance is high to get pregnant after you swam in that lake. Afterwards we went to a place where we saw the Langkawi eagles. Furthermore I could drive the boat to the next location where we just chilled out and had a good time. We discovered a random pig there and a cute hornbill couple.

5:30 p.m. - After we got back I did some grocery shopping and I found a proper small hiking backpack for day trips and stuff. And it was 50% of so I think I made a good deal.

7 p.m. - Later we had a good sunset and went for a nice last dinner.

10 p.m. - Afterwards I learned a new card game called shit head and later I packed my backpack. So I was ready to move on.

  • Langkawi -> Penang

    10 января 2023 г., Малайзия ⋅ 🌧 25 °C

6 a.m. - Lars, one of the guys I spent my last days with, and I woke up and got ready for the pick up to the airport.

8 a.m. - We departure to Penang. After a 25min flight and a good nap for me we arrived there.

9 a.m. - We took the public bus to Georgetown where our hostel was located. The bus was really cheap but it also took some time. Probably longer than the flight.

10 a.m. - We arrived at the hostel dropped our backpacks there and searched for some breakfast. Suddenly we met Lea and Femke again. They stayed in the same hostel as we in Langkawi and asked us if we wanted to join them for a hike in the afternoon.

12:30 p.m. - We rented a scooter and drove along the coast to the nationalpark where we all met up. We hiked trough the jungle to a lake but unfortunately there was no water and to the turtle beach but there it was forbidden to swim because of the current and positing jellyfish. Furthermore some people already died here. So we continued hiking to another beach. On our way we saw some monkeys, a big ass lizard and a weird species of a squirrel. When we arrived at the other beach we reckoned that it also was forbidden to swim because of the same reasons. But the rangers there said it is alright if we go just hip deep in the water. We all were so glad because the hike was exhausting and the water really refreshing. So we hanged out at the beach and suddenly I saw my first otter in the wild. Later we asked the rangers if we could get a boat back because nobody wanted to walk another 2h back and the said its possible but when we asked for the boat they had no service to call it. They tried it at least for 20min and I already gave up but somehow the figured it out and a boat picked us up.

6:30 p.m. - We arrived at the entry again and drove back to the hostel. On our way back we stopped at an Indian restaurant where we got a delicious dinner.

9 p.m. - Back in the hostel I took a deserved shower and relaxed a bit.

10 p.m. - Later met up with the others for some drinks and played some cards but it was a long day so I left earlier to get some rest.

    Summary:
Langkawi was my first stop in Malaysia and I needed to get used to the new currency a bit different food and the language. But it’s not very different from Thailand. There is definitely a lot to do but I almost did all of the provided activities in Thailand and I don’t need to see three different mangrove woods. You can also explore a lot by yourself because the island is big enough. The food wasn’t that great all the time except of the places Mark recommended. But the hostel was very nice and social. I met so many amazing people there so it’s defensive my highlight and the reason why I enjoyed Langkawi.

    11 января 2023 г., Малайзия ⋅ 🌧 26 °C

10 a.m. - Talked to a Canadian girl in the morning. Afterwards I met up with the others.

11 a.m. - We searched for some cheap local breakfast and ended up in chinatown. There we got a weird roti egg version. Furthermore I bought some rice cake stuff for lunch with was unexpected food. Later we figured out a plan for chinese new year.

2 p.m. - Afterwards we explored the city and found a nice café with amazing cake. Unfortunately it started to rain so we stopped our tour and waited till the rain got less and continued. We saw a lot of the famous street art. I love taking pictures of art so I enjoyed the afternoon. Furthermore we found a vintage store with a lot of nice stuff but unfortunately the had the wrong size for me.

5 p.m. - We got back and chilled because we walked a lot and everyone was tired.

8 p.m. - Later we went out for dinner to the nightmarket and I had amazing noodles at the first stand there. Moreover I went to a falafel place and got an amazing vegan chicken wrap. Afterwards we went to a bar we found in the afternoon. It was more a shop where you could by cheap alcohol and then you got some plastic chairs and sat somewhere on the street. Really simple but the vibe was amazing. We played bus driver and enjoyed the night. Afterwards we went to the falafel place again to get some snacks.

11:30 a.m. - It got late last night so we slept longer than usual. Dan and Hendrick already left to Thailand and the others to Ipoh. Lars and I got breakfast/lunch. Afterwards we chilled a bit because it was way to hot to to anything. So I informed me a bit about Indonesia which places, visa, weather etc.

2:30 p.m. - Later we went for some fruit oat bowls for lunch. It was amazing to eat such kind of food again. Afterwards we went to the Kek Lok Si Temple. They already decorated it for the Chinese New Year and everywhere were a lot of lanterns. It looked really cool and there was a lot to explore because it was huge.

5:30 p.m. - We got back and ate some good dumplings for a snack.

6:30 p.m. - Afterwards we went back to the hostel to get ready for the evening and I informed me about different Universities and studies abroad.

8 p.m. - We left for dinner and I tried Xin Chao a sandwich from Vietnam. Furthermore I got the amazing vegan chicken wrap again.

9:30 p.m. - We met up with another girl from our hostel and went to a secret bar called Backdoor Bodega. You walk into a clothing store and then you get asked if you want to enter the bar and if you have a reservation. At the end of the store is a door where you enter the bar. You don’t hear any music out of it. It’s a really cool concept but the drinks where really expensive. So we went back to the hostel afterwards and chilled there for a bit.

P.S.: The food in Penang is amazing.

  • Penang -> Ipoh

    13 января 2023 г., Малайзия ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

8 a.m. - Lars and I took our backpack and walked 15min to the bus station.

9:15 a.m. - We departure to Ipoh and had a comfortable bus so I slept almost the hole drive.

1 p.m. - It took unexpected long to arrive in Ipoh but we made it. After we dropped our bags and in the hostel we got some good coffee but a very bad lunch. I got some sort of noodle soup with beef but it didn’t tasted well. Furthermore the beef looked weird and had a lot of fat which I absolutely don’t like.

3 p.m. - Later we explored the old town and visited the amazing street art places. Suddenly I found a gorgeous white cat with blue and green eyes. I was fascinated. Afterwards we made a coffee break and I got a fancy iced caramel latte and a good coconut ice cream. Then we went to the Concubine Lane the touristic street with a lot of souvenir shops and I bought Uno Flip. On our way to the hostel we found a really cool “nerd store” with a lot of cool games, cards and action figures. I loved it.

8 p.m. - In the evening we met up with Lea, Femke and Eli for dinner. A guy in our hostel recommended us a restaurant so we went there and got amazing food but I have no idea what the name of the dish was. Afterwards I went to a small candy shop where I bought some nice candy’s and walked troughs the nightmarket. Furthermore we found a cool vintage store with a lot of records, old filme cameras and clothes but unfortunately I don’t have the money and space in my backpack for these things. Later we went to the hostel of the others and started a game night. We bought some snacks and beer before and I learned a new game. I really enjoyed nights like these and I definitely have to by the game we played when I am back home.

    Summary:
Georgetown thats where I stayed in Penang is a city with a beautiful vibe. I loved just to walk around, look at the buildings and the amazing street art. Even the fire department looks amazing. Furthermore you have a lot of amazing food places. You can literally just eat the hole day. They also have a nationalpark where you can do some hikes by yourself. It’s more a chilled city but there is definitely enough to explore.

  • Ipoh -> Cameron Highlands

    14 января 2023 г., Малайзия ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

9:30 a.m. - We already checked out in the morning and got some breakfast. I really miss a good bread for breakfast because here you can get just some spicy noodles, rice or a noodles soup. I absolutely can’t handle spicy food in the morning. But the drinks in the morning are nice. Most of the time I order Teh Tarik instead of coffee.

11:30 a.m. - Later Lars, Eli and I went to Kek LoK Tong a cave temple. It wasn’t something special just a temple in a big cave and a nice garden with a lake outside.

1:30 p.m. - After that we went back to the city for some lunch and I got a really nice noodle soup but unfortunately we were a bit in a hurry to get to the bus terminal 30min outside the center.

3 p.m. - We arrived in time and our bus departure to Cameron Highlands. I slept almost the hole drive as usual but when I was awake I saw the beautiful landscape and the impressive agriculture system in the mountains.

6 p.m. - We arrived in the hostel and unfortunately my water bottle wasn’t closed correctly so my small backpack was completely wet. Wasn’t a great start but anyways it can dry again.

7 p.m. - Lars and I went to the nightmarket and I tried a lot of food. I got some Nasi Lemak as a main dish, some sweet corn, waffles and honeycomb as a dessert. Furthermore I bought some strawberry’s for the next day.

9 p.m. - Later in the hostel we singed up for a hike the next day. Afterwards we went into a bar and watched the game Manchester United vs Manchester City. I was wearing long pants and a hoodie because it was cold there in the night and morning if you compare it to the places before.

    Summary:
Ipoh is a nice city if you want to go a bit of side the main path. It has a central city center where you can find some good restaurant’s and fancy café’s. One night was completely enough because there isn’t a lot to do but still worth to visit.

    P.S.: I didn’t expect such a big tuning scene in Ipoh/hole Malaysia

    15 января 2023 г., Малайзия ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

8 a.m. - I woke up to get some breakfast before the hike and found a place where I could order Roti with egg. Furthermore I still had the strawberry’s from yesterday so I was ready.

9 a.m. - We singed up for trail 10. We did the hike by ourselves but with some other people from the hostel. We just downloaded Maps.me and the stuff from the hostel generated the hiking route. We just followed the the route there. The first 45min were very steep but after that we reached the highest point and from now on it just went down. The path wasn’t the best because it was muddy and slippery. We choose the harder way and went down beside the river. It was quite adventurous because we needed to climb down waterfalls and stuff. Afterwards we continued on a normal path, walked through some agriculture fields and ended up in a valley full of tea fields. It was amazing on your left and right just tea fields as far you could see.

1 p.m. - We finished the hike and got some lunch in one of the tea houses. Furthermore I tried some tea it was quite alright with some sugar. Afterwards we hitchhiked back to the hostel. It was my first time hitchhiking and it was way to easy. We were a group of nine people and the first vehicle which passed and stopped was a Truck and all of us fitted in.

2 p.m. - We arrived back at the hostel, everyone was exhausted and took a nap. I searched for a shop with super glue, to repair my shoes because the bottom of my shoes is pealing of, and found a DIY shop not far from the accommodation.

4 p.m. - Lea, Femke and Eli arrived so I went with for some snacks and coffee. The weather was really nice so far. I even got a small sunburn during the hike but suddenly I started to pour down rain. Was nice to be in the mountains with fresh air and the smell of the rain.

6 p.m. - We went out with the trekking group for dinner in a Indian restaurant. The food was really and normal priced.

8 p.m. - Later we went back to the hostel and played some games. And I went to bed a bit earlier.

    16 января 2023 г., Малайзия ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

9 a.m. - I tried to call our next hostel in Taman Negara for some information about the weather and the tours but unfortunately nobody answered. So we got some Roti with egg and my first white coffee for breakfast. White coffee is made of special roasted coffee beans and very common in Malaysia. Is a bit sweet but I like it. After breakfast I called again and this time someone answered. I found out that they don’t provide the 2D1N tour in the jungle but all others and for further information I should send him a message. So I send him a message and we booked the accommodation. After that we played some “Siedler von Catan”.

1 p.m. - We went for lunch again in the Indian restaurant and I ate the same as yesterday.

3 p.m. - After lunch Femke, Lars and I decided to hitchhike to Cameron Lavender fields. The hitchhike to the place was quite easy but it was a long drive of 30mins. Once we were there it was a weird experience. The had a lot of different flowers and some strawberries. Furthermore they had kind of a castel which reminded me of Disney Land and many souvenir shop’s. But they had a nice lavender ice cream. I think we were 30min in there after we decided to go back. We hitchhiked back but in was more difficult. Most of the cars which drove by just made fun of us but after 20min we got a taxi.

5 p.m. - After we came back we played another game of “Siedler von Catan“ and some other games.

7:30 p.m. - Later we got some dinner, not at the Indian place. It was more a random place and I got some food which I didn’t expected but it was still good. I went to bed early this night because I was really tired.

    17 января 2023 г., Малайзия ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

7:30 a.m. - We got some Roti for breakfast before a long travel day.

8:30 a.m. - The bus to Jerantut picked us in front of our hostel up.

12 p.m. - After a long and wild drive we arrived in Jerantur. I almost got travel sick because our driver was almost racing. In Jerantut we got pushed in a travel agency and the tried to sell us a tour package. While waiting I booked a flight to Borneo to continue with Lea, Femke and Eli.

12:45 p.m. - We changed the Bus and continue to Taman Negara.

2 p.m. - We arrived in the hostel and tried to solve the following issue. I called Jason, the owner of the hostel, in advance to ask him if they provide the 2D1N tour. At the phone he said no and for further information I should write him a WhatsApp. So we booked 2 nights and I asked for more information. His response was that they provide the 2D1N tour. Our plan was to split the booked dates and go on the tour in between. Unfortunately that was not possible because he was fully booked at that day. So we went for some lunch and discussed what to do. The solution was to stay those 2 nights, go afterwards on the tour. So we booked another accommodation for the day we come back. The rest of the day we just chilled and played shithead.

8 p.m. - In the evening we went out for dinner in the only open restaurant.

8 a.m. - Egg Roti for breakfast and a coffee is the best way to start in the day. We decided to do a hike in the nationalpark by ourselves and got some lunch to go in banana leaves. Furthermore just Eli and I are going on the 2D1N tour the others were not so exited.

10 a.m. - We used again Maps.me to navigate in the jungle. The hike was not that challenging but because of the humidity I sweated a lot. The first 30 mins we walked a bit steep up until we reached the top and a viewing point where we could see over a small part of Taman Negara. Afterwards it just went down but the track wasn’t in a good condition because of the monsoon season and there were a lot of leeches. Anyways we made it down and walked a flat track back to the entrance. In the way we made a break for lunch and it started to rain.

1:30 p.m. - We arrived back at the hostel showered and chilled for a bit. Later we went for a coffee but pretty hard to find good coffee here and we also hadn’t lot of options for food because there weren’t a lot of restaurants. And Lars also decided to join us in Borneo. Afterwards I had a phone call with my mom and we needed to figure out where to book the tour because Jason needs at least 4 persons to organize it. We couldn’t find someone to convince so our last option was the biggest transport and tour provider. We decided to join them because we wanted to do it and there was no other option.

7:30 p.m. - We had dinner with some other guys of the hostel. Afterwards Lea, Femke and Lars went to the night safari, I phoned my sister and had a nice little chat with some people from the hostel. Later I packed most of the things I took on the tour.

  • Taman Negara Jungle Trip Day 1

    19 января 2023 г., Малайзия ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

8 a.m. - I repacked my small backpack for the 2D1N tour because I needed to take a photo from all my stuff. Afterwards I got breakfast and we needed to pack all the water, food, sleeping bag etc. in our backpack. At the end my backpack was around 8-10 kg heavy.

10 a.m. - We arrived in the nationalpark and it took ages until everyone had there park entrance and camera license. Eli and I already got that from yesterday. Afterwards we needed to write down what we were wearing and what we had in our backpacks. So they can check if we brought everything back and don’t left trash etc. in the rainforest.

11 a.m. - We finally started the trip. At first we drove with the boat to the canopy walk. Incredible feeling to walk through the jungle in 40m hight. Afterwards we continued the boat drive 1.5h to our starting point for the hike. We also got lunch on the boat.

13:30 p.m. - We started our hiking. The hike itself wasn’t hard. It was always a little bit up and a little bit down but not a lot altitude meters. Just the fact of the humidity, the condition of the path and the heavy backpack was exhausting. We made two breaks one at a river and the other one in a small cave where we discovered a bee nest in the rock and some paw tracks and poop of the black panther. We also saw a lot of elephant paw tracks and poop on the hole hike. It took us quite long to reach the cave and we needed to take a lot of detours because we were one of the first groups im the jungle after the monsoon break. So the path wasn’t in the best condition. We had a lot of muddy parts, river crossing, leeches and there were a lot of fallen trees blocking the way. We ether walked around or climbed over or under. In the end we hiked for 15km.

6:30 p.m. - We arrived in the cave, where we slept, a bit exhausted and tried to shower us in the river to feel a little bit clean and get rid of the leeches. Suddenly it started raining. Afterwards we prepared our sleeping place in the cave, cooked dinner and chatted a bit. Between the cave was huge. Later Eli, a US guy and I went out for a small night safari around the cave. We found a lot of different insects, all twice as big as at home, and a porcupine. At some point we turned of the lights and just looked and listened in the dark. We were surrounded of amazing lights and life in the jungle. I have no idea what it was but I think some plants or mushrooms. At some point a small animal came really close to us and ran away when we turned on the lights again. We don’t know what it was but I almost shit myself.
Anyways it was incredible and scary at the same time to be in the world’s oldest rainforest in the night, home of the Malaysian tiger, other predators, elephants etc. Definitely a highlight and something I won’t forget.

P.S.: My shoulders hurt really bad in the evening.

  • Taman Negara Jungle Trip Day 2

    20 января 2023 г., Малайзия ⋅ 🌧 22 °C

8 a.m. - I woke up after a decent night im a cave. I didn’t got a proper sleeping bag so I was cold in the night. Furthermore it was obviously pretty hard and I woke up multiple times. I really enjoyed all the noises you could hear. The rain, frogs, insects for outside and bats inside the cave. But all in all I thought it would be worse. We ate some simple breakfast. Just some toast with yam, banana cake and some coffee.

9:30 a.m. - We got ready for the day. Unfortunately it started to rain before we started walking again. So the conditions were worse than the day before. The hole track was more or less just mud and we needed to cross some deeper rivers. It was exhausting but also a lot of fun when you just accepted it and didn’t care anymore.

2 p.m. - We arrived the camp after another 12.5 km completely dirty, wet everywhere and full of leeches. I tried to cleaned most of my stuff there. Afterwards we got some lunch.

3:30 p.m. - Afterwards we visited a aborigine village. Our guide explained us some of the history of there tribe and how the live. The showed us how to make fire just with wood and how to hunt with a blow pipe. Furthermore the showed me how to roll there cigarettes and I could tried them. Way to strong for me especially without filter.

5:30 p.m. - We arrived back in civilization, changed our accommodation and relaxed for a bit. In the shower I found two more leech bites.

7 p.m. - We went out for dinner. I got Pattaya for the first time. A really easy and tasty dish I could make at home. Unfortunately one of the leech bites didn’t stop bleeding. I tried a lot of different things but nothing worked. It just kept bleeding. We didn’t knew what to do so we tried to find the plant, which should stop blood. One of the things our guide thought us on the hike. Unfortunately we couldn’t find the plant but some locals so we asked them. They were so friendly and helpful. One of the drove somewhere, I don’t know where, to get some local medicine for me. Adorable. I don’t have any idea what it was, a kind of cream, and it looked really weird. Anyways it helped to stop the bleeding really fast.

    21 января 2023 г., Малайзия ⋅ ☁️ 24 °C

8:30 a.m. - I repacked my small backpack because there was everything form the 2D1N tour in it. The wet clothes form the hike couldn’t dry because it rained all night. My clothes and shoes where really smelly.

9:30 a.m. - Later we got a last time breakfast at “Anne Restaurant”.

10 a.m. - Afterwards all five of us departure to Jerantut. It rained the hole day so perfect for a travel day.

11:30 a.m. - We arrived at the bus station in Jerantut and I got some instant noodle’s for lunch.

12:10 p.m. - Afterwards we departure to Kuala Lumpur but we had some delay because some parts of the street were flooded because of the rain.

4 p.m. - We took the metro/sky train, which was nice because I saw already a lot of the city, to the hostel where we arrived 30min later. After check in we tried to go to a lion dance show in a big mall but unfortunately we missed it. Anyways the mall was impressive, just luxury stores and the parking slot crazy as well. Furthermore the decorated it because of Chinese New Year.

8 p.m. - We went out for dinner in the a street with a lot of restaurants and food stalls. I tried Japanese Wagyu beef. Never heard if that but it was very expensive because the cow gets a massage every day. Afterwards we played a bit “Chase the Ass” it’s basically “Schwarzer Peter” and went to the bar street for some drinks.

P.S.: It was the Chinese New Years Eve and the CNY lasted 15 days. Everything is decorated beautiful and there were some random fireworks.

    Summary:
Taman Negara is perfect for everyone how loves nature and adventure because apart from hiking there is not a lot to do. I am thankful that I got the opportunity to sleep in a cave. That was a crazy experience and definitely a highlight and something I won’t forget.

    22 января 2023 г., Малайзия ⋅ 🌧 26 °C

10 a.m. - I got some simple breakfast in the hostel. Later I organized, planned some things and booked some flights.

12:30 p.m. - Afterwards we went to some vintage stores. The had some cool stuff but same prices as at home. And we went to another shopping mall because it was a very rainy day. It was very cold in the mall, I almost got goosebumps, and overwhelming. So many floors, stores and people because the locals got holidays. We just walked around and discovered the world’s largest indoor theme park in the mall. They even got a fucking roller coaster!

7:30 p.m. - In the evening we got some nice Indian food dinner. Afterwards we went to the Petronas Towers. They look amazing at night. Straight out of a science fiction film. Furthermore we saw the light show where the colors changed to red and orange. Probably red because of the CNY. If I am not wrong red is a lucky color and the color of the CNY. Everything is red. Later we walked through the closed main street of chinatown and found a fancy and busy bar somewhere there.

P.S.: I fell in love with the streetwear scene and half asian girls

11:30 a.m. - We went to the Eco park in the middle of the city but unfortunately it was closed because of the CNY. So we got some coffee, a quick lunch and discussed what to do.

2 p.m. - Eli, Femke and I went to the Batu Caves outside of the city. It was very crowded because of holidays I think. So it was almost impossible to see the different colors of the stairs. Anyways it was nice to see the huge cave temple. Afterwards some strangers asked for a photo and I thought I should take a photo of them but they wanted a photo with me. Furthermore our Cab driver couldn’t hear anything and didn’t realized it and talked to him so there was a bit of a weird situation but also very funny.

4:30 p.m. - We met up with the others in chinatown. I walked through the streets and found a sport shirt. The main street was like the basar in Istanbul but with less options. Almost every shop offered the same. Anyways I got some amazing roasted chestnut‘s which reminded me of home.

8 p.m. - We went out for some dinner and joined the pub quiz, where we met the others from the hostel, later. Although we missed half of the rounds we won a chug of beer. The vibe was great and it was the first bar with a bit hip hop music. At some point I went to the DJ pult but unfortunately the just had a couple of downloaded playlists. So we went to another bar with a small club in the first floor. The music there wasn’t the best and it was funny to watch the locals trying to shoot their shot at the female tourist. At some point it got weird and annoying.

P.S.: Football especially Premier League is a big thing in Malaysia

1 p.m. - We woke up late, tired and hungover and decided to check out a good Nasi Lemak place but unfortunately it was closed. Anyways there were some other restaurants with malaysian food like Nasi Goreng, Me Goreng and Teh Tarek. Furthermore the place was close to the botanical garden. We wanted to visit the butterfly garden but because of the rain the butterfly‘s were hiding so we moved on to the bird park but the entrance was very expensive so we just walked around the park. I didn’t expected that the botanical garden is so beautiful. In the late afternoon we went to Decathlon. It was my first time and I already love this store. It’s like a Ikea for sportswear. I bought a short and a second good towel. I was so impressed that I forgot my card in the reader when I paid bit luckily a friendly guy brought it back to me.

6:30 p.m. - Lars didn’t felt well and he had to throw up probably because of his lunch. Afterwards we to a cab to a closer hostel to the airport and I realized that my flight is at 6:15 p.m. and not 6:15 a.m. Imagine I would realized at the airport.

7:30 p.m. - The hostel is literally in the middle of nowhere. We got some lunch in the only restaurant in walking distance and went to bed early because the others had a morning flight.

P.S.: I love that KL is very green

  • Kuala Lumpur -> Kota Kinabalu

    25 января 2023 г., Малайзия ⋅ ☁️ 26 °C

10 a.m. - I woke up late because I had to catch up some sleep from the last couple of days. I figured out some stuff for Borneo. For example for the diving on Mabul/Sipadan and enjoyed my private room for a couple of hours. It felt really good to be alone and to get a bit distance from the others.

1 p.m. - Later I got some lunch in the only restaurant where we were already yesterday and had a phone call with my mum.

4 p.m. - I arrived at the airport got some cash out, check in, security check and afterwards I got some dinner at Subway.

6:15 p.m. - Departure to Kota Kinabalu in Borneo.

9 p.m. - I slept the hole flight as usual and woke up because of the rough landing.

10 p.m. - I got a cab to the hotel where I met the others. It was quite hard to find the entrance because there were no signs etc. My lovely travel mates bought me some dinner because I was still hungry after Subway. For the rest of the evening we watched some trash TV.

    Summary:
It was a big change from sleeping in a cave somewhere in the jungle to a big city like KL. But I really loved KL and I can imagine to live there. There is loads to do and my favorite thing was that they try to make the city green with plants.

  • Kota Kinabalu

    26 января 2023 г., Малайзия ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

11 a.m. - It is always a challenge to find vegetarian food for our veggies so we walked quite long until we found a breakfast place. I recognized that the english level in Kota Kinabalu isn’t that high. Furthermore I had the feeling that they haven’t seen many european people because we got all the attention and they took some photos with us. On the way back we discovered slums. We decided to walked trough and it was hard to see how the life. Especially the huge amount of plastic trash there and the contrast to the skyscrapers. They were all very friendly and I had some nice little chat’s. Moreover I got besieged for all the kids and could barley move. Was definitely crazy to see.

1:30 p.m. - In the afternoon we wanted to go to the Kota Kinabalu park where also the highest mountain of Malaysia Mt. Kinabalu (4095m) is. My actual plan was to climb the mountain but it is way to expensive so we wanted to do some smaller hikes by ourselves. Unfortunately we could not figure out how to get there and the time was very short as well. Instead we went to our huge infinity pool on the roof top and chilled there.

4 p.m. - In the afternoon we went for some coffee and snacks.

7 p.m. - For dinner we went to a huge market local market where they sell fresh fruits, vegetables, fish and meat. I really don’t know what to say that they sell sharks, puffer fish and mantas. Furthermore the had some food stalls and we got dinner in one if them. Eli and I decided to get some squid’s and a fish from the BBQ with some vegetables and rice. Back home I would easily pay 30-40€ for this meal and I just paid 10€ and it was amazing.

P.S.: Some of the locals of the market called me Justin Bieber. Furthermore our toilet got a defect and it wasn’t possible to flush so it was a bit nasty.

  • Kota Kinabalu -> Sandakan

    27 января 2023 г., Малайзия ⋅ 🌧 29 °C

6:30 a.m. - We packed our stuff together and went to the bus station.

    8 a.m. - We departure to Sandakan.

1:30 p.m. - We stopped at a restaurant for lunch but honestly it was the worst lunch I had so far. It was horrible. The drive was really long about 8h and not spectacular. The highlights were the bad condition of the road, to see Mt. Kinabalu, oil palm as far you could see and a police control.

4 p.m. - We arrived in our hostel in Sandakan centre. Afterwards we got some really good coffee and some information in the hostel about what to do etc.

8 p.m. - Later we went out for dinner where I got a good curry since a long time. Lea did her laundry and I added my stuff. She chose the smallest heat but somehow my clothes shrank a bit. Furthermore I realized that I had no blanket but the reception was already closed. I found some blankets somewhere in a room so I just took one by myself. I had no idea if it was washed or not but it smelled good.

  • Sandakan/Sepilok

    28 января 2023 г., Малайзия ⋅ 🌧 29 °C

8 a.m. - I got some Roti egg for breakfast and got ready for our day trip to Sepilok Orangutan rehabilitation center. Orangutans are a endangered species and you can only find them living wild in the jungle of Borneo (Malaysia) and Sumatra (Indonesia). They are endangered because of the deforesting of the jungle for palm oil plantations. As well as other animals. On our bus drive the day before I just saw palm oil plantations as far as I could see. Did you know that almost 90% of the world oil palm trees are grown on a few islands in Malaysia and Indonesia? The big problem with orangutans is that the baby’s stay with their mother unit they are six. After that they learned everything to survive by their own. If something happens to the mother in that six years the baby would die. The goal of this organization is to rescue the baby orangutans and the nurse them until they are ready to be released again in the wild.

9 a.m. - We took the local bus to Sepilok and it was horrible. The seats, the load annoying music etc. At least it was cheap and he brought us to the entrance.

10 a.m. - When we arrived we saw at first a mother orangutan with her small baby sitting on the roof of the building just chilling and watching all the people. Another thing the organization does is the provide two times a day a “feeding” where they provide a lot of fruits with nutritions and vitamins for the orangutans. So if they feel like it they know where they can find some healthy food. Basically it’s a good sign when there are less orangutans but the ranger also told us that there are some lazy ones how just take advantage of the situation. So we went to the “feeding” in the morning and we saw there another two orangutans. Just chilling there and eating. I was so fascinated how the behave and act. Really calm and chill. I can watch them for hours and hours. It was very impressive how he cracked the coconut to get the meat out of it. We also wanted to visit the nursery but unfortunately it was closed because of construction work.

1:30 p.m. - We had no service there so we just started to walke and found a restaurant for lunch after 30 min. While we had lunch it started to rain but we didn’t mind because when we finished the weather was good again.

2:30 p.m. - We went to the second “feeding” in the afternoon a bit earlier. When we arrived there, there was already a mother orangutan and her older baby up in the trees and waited for the food. Once the ranger came with the food they made their way down to the platform. Unfortunately a group of macaque monkeys wanted the food as well and the distributed the orangutans. This there were a bit more than in the morning. In total five. But most of the just grabbed as much food as possible. They had food in both there feet’s and in one hand. The last hand they used to get back up in the trees where they ate their food without any distribution. After they had enough the all disappeared in the jungle. It was very hard to take good pictures with the phone because of the colors, the light and the zoom. Luckily I met Niccolo a Italien guy how life’s in Australia and he is a nature/animal photographer with a proper camera in his free time. He was so kind to send me some of his photos.

4 p.m. - After we finished we saw a hornbill couple in a tree where we waited for the bus. Unfortunately the bus didn’t came so we wanted to order a grab but somehow every driver cancelled. So ended up asking some locals and we shared two cars back to the hostel.

5 p.m. - Later we went for a small snack in Mci and checked out the shopping mall there.

7 p.m. - In the evening there was a event in our hostel because of the seventh day of CNY. They provided a free big buffet and drinks. The brought up so much food it was insane. Furthermore we got some small fireworks and all in all it was a really cozy and familiar evening.

P.S.: Did you know that we share round about 97% DNA with orangutans.
