      Geothermal- Maori Park

      Heute Morgen haben wir das erste mal unser Grauwater und Blackwater leeren müssen und neues Freshwater tanken. Danach sind wir in den nahe gelegenen Park gegangen um die Geysire zu bewundern. Auch haben wir die ersten und eventuell auch die letzten Kiwis gesehen, welche in natürlichen Umgebung eigentlich kaum mehr sichtbar sind.
      Auch die Kultur der Maoris mit ihrem Handeschick wurden uns neher gebracht.

      Nach den Gestrigen Schlagzeilen des ausbruches vom Vulkan auf White Island, müssen wir uns sagen, dass wir genau auf dem Vulkangürtel zur Zeit sind. Hoffen aber das es nicht noch andere beeinflussen wird, oder noch Erdbeben verursacht.      Read more

      Day 74

      Steak, wine, art

      Had a slightly later start, as the party around our camper continued until the early hours of the morning. With rain forecast and no clear plan, we drove to Te Mata viewpoint, which gives panoramic views over Hawkes bay. On the way up we stopped at a Honey farm, to top up the breakfast with a few varieties of Honey.
      On to the tourist office to see if they had any art galleries to view. One called crab farm was both a winery and art studio, so we headed for that. Very nice 3 mini wines tasted, a steak sandwich shared, and art gallery visited we headed north towards Taupo and Rotorua. We stopped at campsite on a lake. Gloriously warm, but quite a few insects. Hannah has been on a non stop ichathon with over 40 bites on her legs. So was not keen to stay outside for long.      Read more

      Day 75

      Maori cultural village

      December 13, 2019 in New Zealand ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

      Started the day with a trip to Wai-O-Tapu. An active area with sulphur smells, hot and multi coloured lakes.
      They have a fake geizer which they pour soap into and it erupts. After an hour and a half of walking around we had seen the sights to headed towards Rotarua and the I site information center. They said the best thing to do would to see a Maori cultural visit.
      I still had not managed to get a new camera after mine got damaged, so found some big camera shops and picked one up. Whoop. Gave the old one to Hannah, as I'm nice like that 😁
      We checked out the free campsites and none had any spaces, so had to check into a proper campsite. At least in could get all 12 gadgets on charge and cram in some admin.
      With the Maori pickup at 6.20 we tried to do some quick laundry. Frustratingly the driers were totally ineffective so we had to leave all our clothes in there, whilst we set off on the bus to the Maori Tamaki village.
      Village was cool with an intro to the culture and the Haka. Quite interactive followed by a big feast. With the number of people there, they must be making a killing! Got back to the campsite to run the drier a few more times before bed.      Read more

      Day 76

      Hobbiton - from Lord of the Rings

      Well what a day!
      Started going round a market and picked up some coffee and pastries. Our tour around Hobbiton wasnt until 3.20pm so we had plenty of time to do some activities. Decided on a giant redwood forest walk. Huge trees and a very tranquil walk. A few pools which were filled with vegetation but were still crystal clear. Must be the volcanic area making it super acidic so nothing can grow in it..?
      Hannah worked out half way round that she had been there before. She found a photo of exactly the same clear pool 🙄. It hasn't changed in 7 years.
      From there off to Hobbiton. We (mostly I) listened to the Fellowship - lord of the rings movie on the radio to get into the spirit of it.
      Arrived and were taken on a tour around the movie set. Amazing area, 40 odd hobbit holes scattered around the valley. Saw one of the most expensive props ever made. A fake tree above Bilbo's house, with thousands of individually attached leaves.
      We walked through hobbiton, to the Green Dragon pub, where we had a cider and an ale and got to sit overlooking a lake and the party tree. Glorious.
      With the tour done and an ice cream had, we set off North. I'd planned in a stop to the highest waterfall in the north island. We stopped and walked 45mins to the lower viewpoint. A bit covered by bushes, but still a very impressive waterfall. Managed to sneak in a bit of drone time as well.
      With it starting to get darker we headed towards our campsite. I turned the lights on.... nothing. Ugh ohh. With about 20mins to go, driving on the main highway, we were going along with only side lights. Managed to stay close to a van so could see where we were going. The last 100m we turned off and drove by the light of the hazard lights. See for a bit, stop, see for a bit stop. Safe and sound, time for a plate of spaghetti with sausages!      Read more

      Après la pluie, la baignade !

      Après avoir récupéré notre nouveau van qui fonctionne, nous voilà partis vers Coromandel et sa péninsule. Pas de beau temps à l'horizon, on est plutôt en période d'orage... !
      On arrive à avoir quelques paysages ainsi que Cathédrale Cove sans pluie, mais celle ci nous rattrape rapidement ⛈️⛈️

      Mais comme on dit, après la pluie le beau temps !! Une accalmie à l'heure du coucher du soleil : magnifique ciel rosé, et baignade possible (et froiiide) !      Read more

      Sulfure et chute d'eau

      Une petite odeur d'oeuf pourri entoure toute cette ville, connue pour ses sources thermiques et ses spa !
      Nous faisons juste un arrêt rapide pour voir le sulfure point, proche du lac, et ses airs de volcan !!
      Le mauvais temps nous pousse à partir plus vite que prévu, pour nous rapprocher du lac Taupo au plus tôt

      On en profite sur le chemin pour voir les chutes de Huka qui sont impressionnantes 🤩

      En bonus: une petite boule de poil qui est venu nous faire des petits calins dans un freecamp 🐱      Read more

      Neues Abenteuer

      Die Zeit vergeht so schnell, bereits zwei Wochen seit meinem letzten Beitrag auf dem Weg nach Neuseeland.

      Die Zeit in Auckland war sehr intensiv. Neben Neujahr in welches ich mit 400 Backpackern gerutscht bin, den Barista Kurs den ich (erfolgreich ;)) absolviert habe, habe ich wieder einmal viel Zeit alleine im Airbnb verbracht und die ganzen Eindrücke der letzten Monate setzen lassen. Es gab einige Tage in denen ich sehr im Loch war und es mir schlecht ging.
      Denn auch während dem Reisen, wenn alles so perfekt scheint und man alle Freiheiten der Welt hat, gibt es eben solche Tage und das ist völlig okay. Es tat gut und mittlerweile konnte ich wieder ganz viel neue Energie und Lebensfreude tanken. Danke auch für meine Familie und Freunde die auch am anderen Ende der Welt für mich da sind.

      Ich habe mich für meine Reise von Norden nach Süden gegen einen Camper entschieden und für Busfahrten. Und bis jetzt hat diese Entscheidung alle meine Erwartungen übertroffen. Ich hab bereits so viele Leute kennengelernt, so viel erlebt in nur ein paar Tagen und ich bin erst am Anfang meiner Reise durch dieses unglaubliche Land.

      Für die ersten beiden Nächte habe ich mir das winzige Küstenörtchen Hahei ausgesucht. Hahei hat wunderschöne Strände, teilweise tritt am Strand warmes Thermalwasser aus. Die Tage habe ich mit Wandern, Baden im Meer, Yoga und Kochen verbracht. Die beiden Abende mit stundenlangen Kartenspielen auf der Terrasse, Lagerfeuer und Bier am Strand und Sterne beobachten. Gestern ging's dann weiter Richtung Süden nach Rotorua. Dieser Ort ist bekannt für seine geothermische Aktivität. In der Region Wai-O-Tapu konnten wir Blasen werfende Schlammlöcher und Geysire bestaunen. Dies war etwas völlig Neues für mich und liess mich Staunen.

      Ich könnte noch sooo Vieles erzählen, aber hier ist erstmal Schluss.
      Morgen geht's weiter an den Aniwhenua See. Das einzige Hostel/Lodge an diesem Örtchen liegt direkt am See :).      Read more

      Redwood Forrest

      Nähe Rotorua gibt es den Wald mit den Redwood Bäumen, das sind riesengroße Bäume mit einer roten Rinde. Diese Mamutbäume können über 100 Meter hoch und bis zu 2000 Jahre alt werden.
      Im Redwood Forrest kann man einen Baumwipfelweg gehen, der übrigens von deutschen Höhenkletterern gebaut wurde.

      Das war unser Plan für heute.
      Unser Campingplatz liegt direkt an der Uferkante vom Lake Rotorua. Richtig schön! Wir haben auf dem selben Platz wie Familie Pietschmann eingecheckt. Die lieben Pietschmanns kennen wir aus Nelson. Aktuell machen sie Zelturlaub und gehen dann für drei weitere Monate zurück nach Nelson. (Ein wenig beneiden wir sie dafür. Beim nächsten Mal machen wir das dann auch so 🙈😜)
      Es ist super, dass wir uns hier alle wiedergetroffen haben und nocheinmal gemeinsam etwas unternehmen.
      Der Baumwipfelweg war super und die großen Bäume sind sehr beeindruckend. Wir haben gleich ein Kombiticket genommen. Damit konnten wir am Abend zurückkommen und den Weg nocheinmal gehen. Nachts wurde der Wald schön beluchtet.
      Tagsüber waren wir dann noch gemeinsam in Rotorua unterwegs, hier roch es recht streng nach Schwefel und an mehreren Stellen blubbert und qualmt die Erde. Im Park gibt es heiße Wasserbecken, in denen man seine Beine wärmen kann. Da sitzen die Leute zusammen und plaudern.      Read more

      Altensamer Dorffest in Neuseeland

      Am Abend trafen wir Sarah&Simon, unsere Nachbarn in Altensam, welche hier ihre Flitterwochen verbringen! 👩‍❤️‍👨
      Die Freude darüber war natürlich rießengroß und wir stießen mit ein paar österreichischen Grundnahrungsmitteln darauf an! Nach dem Motto: Hops und Malz - Gott erhalts! 😂🍺🍺🤗
      Der Campingplatz war auch etwas Besonderes, er lag direkt an riesigen Heißwasserquellen...
