  • Day 57–61

The day after I returned from Tasmania I already headed on to my next stop -> Byron Bay 🚌
I didn't really know what to expect as it's pretty hyped as a super laid-back surfer place. And when something is that fancied I tend to be rather sceptical πŸ˜…
But I have to admit that Byron really surprised and convinced me! 😊
Right after my arrival I booked a surfing class which started 15 mins after my booking haha. And it was sooo much fun! πŸ„πŸΌ‍♀️πŸ₯° it seems easier than it actually is to stand up on the board, but I got really determined on doing it ✌🏼 thus that I attended another surfing class the following morning & rented a board later that week to practice myself again πŸ˜†πŸ™†πŸΌ‍♀️
Next to that, I did 2 boxing classes which were offered by the hostel - and omg, I loved it! Didn't know that boxing was so much fun as well!! 🀼🏼‍♀️πŸ₯Š
And on top of that I did a circus class - yep, you read correctly...circus. πŸŽͺ did an aerials class there, which was suuuper exhausting but real good fun too. πŸ₯° So many new sport options...seems like the perfect place for me πŸ˜…πŸ˜‰
Besides exercising I enjoyed the sunrise at the lighthouse in Byron πŸŒ…, did a tour to spots off the beaten track to a really nice waterfall, the tea-tree-stained lake Ainsworth and gorgeous Kings Beach πŸ–πŸ˜Ž, had a BBQ at the beach and good nights out with some friends πŸ½πŸ”πŸ€©
So kept my days quiet busy, but in a way that I really enjoy. πŸ₯°πŸ€©
On my last day I was supposed to do kayaking with dolphins 🐬, which was unfortunately cancelled due to the rainy weather πŸ˜• really hope I'll get another chance to spot this beautiful creatures 🀞🏼
However, made it back to the gold coast this evening in order to take off to my next destination tomorrow πŸ›«πŸ˜‡

    Time to leave πŸ›«πŸ›¬

    February 11 in Australia β‹… β›… 25 Β°C

Today it was finally time to leave Tassie. I spent 17 gorgeous days there and could have still stayed longer. Tassie, oh Tassie...you gave me everything I needed - and even more! πŸ₯° I've beeen spoiled with amazing white sandbeaches, awesome trails, breathtaking views & nature, warmhearted people and a music festival - what else could I've asked for?! 😍😍😍
But still I felt like it's time to continue my travels in Australia, so I flew back to the Gold Coast. And I have to admit it's also nice to be back at a 'real' summer & not having to put on 3 layers from 7pm onwards πŸ˜…
Once back I just did some grocery shopping, enjoyed the beach for a while and got organized for my next few days πŸ™‚
Once again - thank you Tassie for treating me that well - you're an absolute wild gem that searches one of a kind! πŸ’ŽπŸ’Ž

    Party in the Paddock πŸ₯³πŸ’ƒπŸΌ

    February 9 in Australia β‹… β›… 27 Β°C

When I decided to prolong my stay in Tassie, I figured that there was the Party in the Paddock festival near Launceston with some bands I wanted to see - so it was obvious where I was going to spend my last few days 🀩🀩
While I did my research about the festival it came into my mind that a friend told me about volunteering, thus I gave it a go and applied - on the last day possible appearently πŸ˜† and got accepted - whoop whoop πŸ™ŒπŸ½πŸ™ŒπŸ½
I had two 6,5h shifts at the merch booth, which was really fun and got free access to the festival & camping in exchange - pretty nice deal, isn't it?! πŸ˜‰
Both of my shifts were during daytime, which was great as it got quiet warm with bright sunshine on these two days so being within the merch tent was perfect. After my shifts (which ended at 8pm resp. 5pm) I checked the festival area, got some food and simply enjoyed the music and festival vibes πŸ₯³πŸ₯³ and of course danced my ass off to Milky Chance, Tash Sultana, Holy Holy and the electro night-tents haha πŸ’ƒπŸΌπŸ’ƒπŸΌπŸ’ƒπŸΌ
Definitely was an awsome thing to go there - absolutely had a blast! 🀩🀩🀩

  • Day 53

    Just one more 🀭

    February 8 in Australia β‹… πŸŒ™ 12 Β°C

It was a bright and sunny day when I looked out of the window this morning - thus a perfect day for one more hike β›°οΈπŸ˜†πŸ₯Ύ
Since I had to go back to Launceston today anyways I picked a summit on the way and hiked Mount Roland. I actually thought about doing this hikes 3 times now, so today was the day. πŸ˜€
There are 2 ways up to the top...a longer and slightly elevated one, and a shorter but steeper one. I guess it's pretty clear which one I went for πŸ˜…
It was a good hike, actually steeper than I thought it'd be, with a couple of rocks to boulder and a steady incline for almost 2 hours. But I really enjoyed it 😊 and the view was good as well, so it's been worth it! 🀩
Full of motivation I continued to Mount Vandyke, which wasn't very special, and then headed back down.
I was so happy about doing the hike, distracted by the surrounding and wrapped up in my thoughts that I almost missed the signs for a date with the man with the hammer πŸ”¨ πŸ₯΄ Luckily I still had some fruit in my backpack which saved me from being all to weak-kneed on the way down πŸ‘πŸΌ
Really liked to have a longer (5h) and a bit challenging hike this time! πŸ₯°
Afterwards just drove back to Launceston, checked in to another capsule hostel & did some planning for my time in Australia 😊

  • Day 52

All good things come in threes πŸ˜‰

    February 7 in Australia β‹… πŸŒ™ 11 Β°C

My third day in western tassie...so it's time to do a third mountain πŸ˜†
Todays plan was to hike Mount Tyndall ⛰️
The way up there wasn't too much fun as it was sooo wet and muddy for the first 30 mins πŸ™ˆ However, it got better then and the sun dried my hiking pants rather fast. πŸ™πŸΌ
I got to the summit / plateau at atound noon and was still able to catch some sun before the fog came in πŸ™„ and again it was pretty cold up there...today I really wished I had some gloves with me πŸ˜…
Due to the change in weather I skipped Mount Geiki, which would have been easily doable from Mount Tyndall in another 1-2 hours. Too bad, as I bet the view from up there would have been amazing! πŸ˜•
Coming down I drove to the Montezuma Falls and did a nice walk through the rainforest there, before doing my third track for the day to the Confluence, where King & Queen river merge. Unfortunately it was too sunny then to see the fusion of the 2 rivers πŸ˜† should have made the hikes in reverse orders today πŸ™†πŸΌ‍♀️

  • Day 51

On to the next one ⛰️

    February 6 in Australia β‹… ☁️ 11 Β°C

I left my cozy cabin in the late morning in order to get to my next hike -> Mount Murchison ⛰️
The weather was nice, do was the hike 😊 and the view up there was just gorgeous (yeah, once again) 😍😍 First time the wind wasn't too bad - but it was just so cold up there πŸ₯Ά started my way up at around 15 degrees, so it prob had around 10 or less on the summit 😳
Once I got back, I made my way to Queenstown, a sleepy little village known for being a former mining hotspot.
The town itself isn't spectacular at all, neither is the room i have. Should have stayed in my cozy cabin πŸ™ˆπŸ’©πŸ™„ but well, it's just for two nights, so I guess I'm just gonna make the best out of it 🀷🏼‍♀️

  • Day 50

    Off to the west β¬…οΈπŸ§πŸš™

    February 5 in Australia β‹… πŸŒ™ 9 Β°C

Since I've already seen (just a fraction, but still) the southern, eastern an northern part of the island I really wanted to also explore the western part for a couple of days. 😊
Opposite to the dry east, going west means more (rain)forest and a bit cooler weather. πŸ™ƒ
I drove to Tullah early morning and did a hike to Mount Farrell & Lake Herbert πŸ˜†
It was really awsome and I got to see some amazing views on the surrounding landscape. 🀩 fell in love with Tassie once again ❀
The weather was a bit annoying, as it was pretty warm as soon as the sun came out, but quiet chilly with the clouds - I put my jacket on & off every 10 mins I guess πŸ˜… somehow getting used to carry clothes for all eventualities with me when going hiking here πŸ˜‰ and of course, it was windy too - what else?! 🌬
But still very much enjoyed the hike. Gave me my much needed dose of movement after 2 days of 'resting' 🀭
Afterwards I just chilledin my cozy cabin and checked the surrounding a bit, so did nothing special :)

  • Day 49

    Still in Tassie πŸ˜‡

    February 4 in Australia β‹… ☁️ 20 Β°C

I actually intended to leave Tassie today but decided to extend my stay here for another week 😊 I'm just not ready to go yet, so I organized everything needed within the last 2 days πŸ˜€
Thus I was in no rush at all this morning, took my time and enjoyed the brakfast at my cozy homestay 🍡🍞πŸ₯£πŸŒ
My host gave me the tipp to go to a fleamarket in a village nearby, which I did. The village itself was really cute with a lot of really nice cottages. 🏑
The fleamarket was fun, anything from books, second hand clothes, jewelry to antique flatirons was available. Had a really good time there - and made a bargain by buying a dress and a blouse for just 10$ πŸ™ŒπŸ½
Shortly after noon I had to exchange my rental car, as I had only rented it until today and wanted to get a smaller one anyways - the one I had just needed way too much gas and didn't have enough PS for it's weight πŸ˜… so now I'm cruising around a nippy little car, which is actually way more fun 🀭
In the evening I went north to George Town, where I did a penguin watching tour that I spontanously booked only a couple of hours before. πŸ™‚
Tasmania is home to several colonies of Little Penguins which, at just around 30cm tall, are the smallest penguin species in the world. 🐧🐧
We got to watch them coming out of the water & going on land, where they stay during the night.
They were just so cute!! It totally paid off going there! πŸ₯° So happy I stayed in Tassie πŸ₯³

  • Day 48

    Fire and Flood πŸ”₯🌊

    February 3 in Australia β‹… 🌬 18 Β°C

    What a day! πŸ₯°
Woke up this morning and somehow already knew it's gonna be a good one ☺️
Made a few last bookings for my next stations, enjoyed a porridge on my "terrace" and then headed of to the Bay of Fires! πŸ”₯
On the way there I crossed through St. Helens, where the usual saturday morning market was just happening. Hence I made a stop to see what's going on there πŸ˜‰
Even though it was a relatively small market, they had lovely stuff! πŸ₯° Spoiled myself with a delicious focacciaπŸ§„πŸ… (which was still warm as it came right out of the oven 🀀), a coffee β˜•οΈ, some fruit 🍎🍏 and a lovely smelling body soap πŸ˜‡
Then went on to the bay of fires. Once again I didn't expect much, as it's just orange coloured stones at the beach. πŸ˜… and oh Tassie, how you've suprised me once again!! This place was just magical! πŸ’«βœ¨οΈ
Words can't really describe what makes this bay so special - because actually it' just orange coloured rocks at the shore πŸ˜‚πŸ€
But the white sandbeaches in combination with cristal clear turquise water and those rocks...simply amazing! 🀩🀩🀩
At each stop (I made 3 of them) I somehow couldn't take my eyes of this spectacle of nature. I ended up spending around an hour at each place, simply sitting on one of the rocks, climbing around or walking along the beach. It was just gorgeous. 😍😍 and gave me my first real sunburn since I am travelling πŸ˜¬πŸ¦€
On my way back to Launceston I made a stop at the Blue little lake, which looks really beautiful, but isn't recommended for swimming because of it's high concentration of aluminium 😯 However, it was rather late already anyways, so I didn't spend too much time there. ⏳️
It's amazing how fast the landscape chsnges by driving from the eastcoast into the country...from sandy beaches and dry meadows to green forests and cow pastures πŸ–πŸŒΎπŸŒ³πŸŒΏ
At my accomodation my host told me that there's a very well-known Festival in town this weekend! What a coincidence! πŸ€— Thus I just quickly took a shower, ate the rest of my focaccia & made my way to check the festival.
Well, that's what I'd like to tell you πŸ˜…πŸ˜… unfortunately it's sold out, so I didn't get in πŸ˜₯ would have been pretty cool to go there πŸ˜• But well, I guess there's another Festival to come for me 🀷🏼‍♀️

    Beaches and a summit πŸ–β›°οΈπŸ₯°

    February 2 in Australia β‹… 🌬 15 Β°C

After a little workout this morning I jumped into the car to go back to Freycinet National park, which I skipped yesterday. πŸ™ˆ
It was a bright & sunny morning, so I already stopped a couple of times on my way down to the national park because I passed so many amazing beaches & viewpoints 🀩
Once I arrived, I started my hike to the wineglass bay lookout, which was really beautiful! 🍷🀭 then kept on walking down to the white sandbeach of the bay, enjoyed some time there before I continued the loop to Hazards beach & then back to the car park through a nice, forestry area. πŸ˜ŽπŸ–πŸŒ³
Since I finished the circuit faster than expected, I had a little snack at the car and then got ready for hike no. 2 πŸ˜‚
Went up to the summit of Mount Amos, which provided a realky spectacular 360° view ⛰️πŸ₯° at least one summit with good view for me haha πŸ˜„ the hike was a bit challenging as it was a rather steep uphill via mostly naked stones, but it was so worth it! 😍😍
Drove back to my accomodation all sweaty but happy and ended my day with a pint of thelocal beer at the enclosed restaurant - cheers! 🍺
