    Familienmalen in den Dünen

    An der Westküste Lettlands haben Freunde von uns ein Grundstück am Meer und wir sind am Vormittag zum malen in die Dünen gegangen. Auf Strandholz und auf Leinwand entstanden Sommer-Kunstwerke. Ein großer Grashüpfer surft derzeit auf den gemalten Wellen von Jens. 🌊

    On the west coast of Latvia friends of ours have a plot by the sea and we have all painted in the dunes. On beach wood and canvas. A big grasshopper is currently surfing the painted waves of Jens. 🌊    Read more

    Matas der Strandsegler aus Nida

    July 17, 2019 in Lithuania ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

    Mit einer Fähre von Kleipeda aus gelangt man auf die Kurische Nehrung, eine langgestreckte Sanddüne, die nach 40 km nicht weiter befahren werden kann, weil dann Litauen endet und Russisches Teritorium beginnt. Eine einzigartige Ostsee-Landschaft mit einem weiten Blick auf das Meer. Am Nachmittag beeindruckt uns Matas, der auf Nida Strandsegler vermietet, auf seinem ersten selbstgemalten Bild, was er unter einer perfekten Welle versteht.

    A ferry from Kleipeda takes you to the Curonian Spit, an elongated sand dune that cannot be navigated after 40 km because Lithuania ends and Russian Teritorium begins. A unique Baltic Sea landscape with a wide view of the sea.     Frische Nehrung in Polen

    Wir sind 650 km um Kaliningrad herumgekurvt, obwohl es erfreulicherweise seit dem 1.7.2019 möglich wäre, das alte Königsberg mit einem kostenlosen Visum zu passieren. Allerdings muss das min. 4 Tage vorher beantragt werden und das ist mit einem Hund auch nicht so einfach. Daher die Tour durchs ostpreußische Binnenland, auch entlang der Masurischen Seen.
    Jetzt sind wir wieder da, wo wir hingehören: am Meer 🌊. Bruno entspannt sich von der langen Fahrt.

    Die Fischerin möchte nicht malen

    In Polen ist es uns leider nicht gelungen, jemanden für die schönen Künste zu begeistern. Der Urlaub an der Ostseeküste geht hier eher laut, neongrell und turbulent zu. Jahrmarktslärm und Geschiebe am Strand. Große Familien auf überfüllten Campingplätzen braten sich vor dem Zelt frische Flundern. Jens ist es nach langer Fragerei trotzdem gelungen, sich mit der Fischerin vom gelben Kutter für den nächsten Tag um 5 Uhr früh zum Meeresmalen zu verabreden. Als wir etwas unausgeschlafen eintreffen, klärt sich ein Sprachmissverständnis: sie will gar nicht malen, sondern hat uns nur erlaubt, sie bei der Arbeit malen zu dürfen. Also malt Jens stellvertretend für alle Polen, die können, aber nicht wollen, ein Morgenbild von den fleißigen Fischern.

    In Poland, unfortunately, we did not succeed in getting anyone interested in the fine arts. The holiday at the Baltic Sea coast is rather loud, neon-coloured and turbulent. Fairground noise and debris on the beach. Big families on overcrowded campsites fry fresh flounders in front of the tent. After a long questioning Jens nevertheless managed to arrange to meet the fisherman-lady of the yellow cutter for the next day at 5 o'clock in the morning for sea painting. When we arrive a bit unwell, a language misunderstanding clears up: she doesn't want to paint at all, but has only allowed us to paint her at work. So Jens paints a morning picture of the hard-working fishermen on behalf of all Poles who can but don't want to.    Read more

    Die Ostsee umrundet

    July 25, 2019 in Denmark ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

    Die erste Etappe unserer Reise ist nun abgeschlossen. Wir hatten lauter besondere Momente und Begegnungen beim Meeresmalen in 10 Ländern. In unserem Kreativbüro im Vorzelt entsteht unterwegs ein besonderes Bilderbuch über die Landschaften, die gemalten Bilder und die Menschen und ihre Geschichten, die sie uns beim Malen erzählen. Für dieses suchen wir nun einen Verlag und es soll im kommenden Jahr erhältlich sein.
    Das Leben draußen und im Bulli, ein Hund, der ständig im Meer schwimmt und die Nächte mit Meeresrauschen, - das alles ist ein großes Glück. 🍀
    Wir sagen dem schönen Norden jetzt Farvel und freuen uns auf die rauen Nordsee- und Atlantikküsten im Nordwesten Europas, die nun auf uns warten.

    The first stage of our journey is now completed. We had many special moments and encounters while painting in 10 countries. In our creative office in the awning we create a special picture book about the landscapes, the painted pictures and the people and their stories they tell us while painting. For this we are now looking for a publisher and it should be available next year.
    The life outside and in the Bulli, a dog, which swims constantly in the sea and the nights with sea noise, - all this is a large luck. 🍀
    We now say Farvel to the beautiful north and look forward to the rough North Sea and Atlantic coasts in the northwest of Europe that are now waiting for us.    Read more

    Texel Beachguards werden Meeresmaler

    Wir haben die niederländische Nordseeinsel Texel im Nordwesten besucht. Ein breiter Sandstrand mit Ebbe & Flut und großen Wellen. Das Baden im Meer ist hier nicht ungefährlich. Für die Sicherheit am Strand am Paal 17 sorgen seit 1950 ehrenamtlich Corps-Studenten aus Utrecht. Als wir fragen, ob jemand malen möchte, wollten gleich 5 Jungs dabei sein. Natürlich bewachten solange andere Kollegen den Strand. Die Beachboys malten die Wellen ihres Lebens und haben nun tolle Bilder für Ihre Studentenbuden und können jetzt auch im Winter den Strand im Auge behalten.

    We visited the Dutch North Sea island Texel in the northwest. A wide sandy beach with low tide & high tide and big waves. Bathing in the sea is not harmless here. Since 1950 Corps students from Utrecht have been taking care of safety on the beach at Paal 17. When we asked if anyone wanted to paint, 5 guys wanted to be there. Of course, other colleagues were guarding the beach. The beach boys painted the waves of their lives and now have great pictures for their student stalls and can keep an eye on the beach even in winter.    Read more

    Ein Marokkanisches Bild von Belgien

    In Belgien stehen plötzlich 10-stöckige Gebäude an der Strandpromenade und es gibt eine Ebbe, die einen zweimal täglich das Meer suchen lässt. Hunde dürfen nur von 21 bis 9 Uhr an den Strand. Bruno ist empört.

    Wir haben in dem mondänen Ort Knokke-Heist Station gemacht und wollten mal mit den Schönen und Reichen malen.
    Stattdessen fanden wir eine nordafrikanische Einwandererfamilie spontan viel netter und haben mit allen zusammen (und mit Händen und Füßen) gemalt. Unser altes Schulfranzösisch soll in den nächsten Wochen gerne mal richtig entstaubt werden. Zum Dank für das schöne Familienkunstwerk gab es ein „cadeau“ an Ute&Jens:
    3 Bananen.
    Hätten wir von den schicken Belgiern vielleicht nicht bekommen.

    In Belgium, there are suddenly 10-storey buildings on the promenade and there is an ebb tide that makes you look for the sea twice a day. Dogs are only allowed on the beach from 21 to 9 o'clock. Bruno is outraged.
    We stopped at the fashionable place Knokke-Heist and wanted to paint with the rich and beautiful. Instead we found a North African immigrant family spontaneously much nicer and painted with all together (and with hands and feet). Our old school French is to be dusted in the next weeks with pleasure times correctly. As a thank you for the beautiful family artwork there was a "cadeau" to Ute&Jens: 3 bananas.
    Maybe we wouldn't have gotten one from the fancy Belgians.    Read more

    In der Bretagne ist alles blau-weiss

    Wir haben entspannte Tage mit besten Freunden aus Hamburg an der schönen Südküste der Bretagne verbracht: Fisch, Austern, Muscheln, Krebse, sogar blaue Hummer.
    Schon Paul Gaugin hat hier in Pont-Aven gemalt, allerdings eher im Atelier. Ihm war wohl das Wetter zu unberechenbar.
    In der Nähe des Surfspots „La Torche“ übernachten wir heute (Danke für den Tipp, Ela). Übrigens erlebt man hier manchmal alle 4 Jahreszeiten am Tag...

    We spent relaxing days with best friends from Hamburg on the beautiful south coast of Brittany: Fish, oysters, mussels, crabs, even blue lobsters.
    Paul Gaugin already painted here in Pont-Aven, but rather in his studio. The weather was probably too unpredictable for him.
    Near the surf spot "La Torche" we spend the night today (Thanks for the tip, Ela). By the way, here you sometimes experience all 4 seasons of the day...    Read more

    Finistère - Malen am Ende der Welt

    Quel grand spectacle!
    Die ganz großen Wellen treffen nach wochenlanger Reise auf die schroffen Felsen im Nordwesten der Bretagne. Das lässt sich kaum malen, findet Jens und bringt lieber mit Indigo-Farbe die Strandwelle auf die Leinwand. Geht ganz einfach: Bild malen, in die Brandung halten, dann daran weiter malen, was die Welle nicht abgewaschen hat. 3x wiederholen 🌊🌊🌊.

    Quel grand spectacle!
    After weeks of travelling, the big waves hit the rugged rocks in the northwest of Brittany. Jens finds it hard to paint and prefers to bring the beach wave onto the canvas with indigo paint. It's quite simple: paint a picture, hold it in the surf, then continue painting what the wave didn't wash off. Repeat 3 times
