    Nha Trang

    The days were getting more lazy and so we chilled 2 days in Nha Trang with basically nothing then good food, cold beers, beach and sun.
    In the old days it was kind of a military base from the Russians so out of the sudden we got Russian menus and people talking russian to us and yeah.. Everywhere Russians and somehow none of them looked happy to be here 😅
    We enjoyed ourselves and continued planing the almost last days of our trip.    Weiterlesen

    Hoi An

    2 nights in the Lampion capital of Vietnam. The city is known for their craftwork of colourfull Lampions and the monthly Lampion festival where all electronic light is shut off and only candles and Lampions lighting up the streets. Unfortunately we missed it but the city is still shining every night in all the colors and we were pretty much just strolling through the streets, trying to find a bar where no Worldcup stuff was running.
    We met two other travelers who we sticked to and had a good time drinking beers and sugarcane juice at the side of the river with all the Lampion boats.
    Next day was more of a planing and sorting day with a small stroll at the beach and in the evening we got our taxi to the train station in Da Nang and hopped on our first 11h train experience in Vietnam.    Weiterlesen

    Hai Van Pass

    I read about the Hai Van Pass to be one of the best bike rides in Vietnam and to cover these 100+ km on something different then a bus was a welcoming change.
    I had my bike rented with the hotel and so also my luggage was transferred for me and I could enjoy the ride without having to carry my bag.
    The route was going along the beach and through villages away from the big highway. Speedlimit is 40 in citys so everything is quite relaxed and I already felt bad driving 50.
    Right before the start of the pass I had my lunchbreak with some nice seafood and Oceanview and waited for the next rain shower to finish.
    The pass itself took me over the mountain with a continuously nice view on the ocean and along waterfalls and ended quicker as expected in the next big city Da Nang.
    With still enough time left I looked up what to see around and found a big white statue in the far sitting on a mountain. 20 minutes later I was standing in front of this massive lady buddha and enjoyed once more the calm vibes of a temple complex with all it's beauty.
    Before I finished the last hour ride to Hoi An I hopped of at another unique spot - Marble Mountain.
    Also located in Da Nang and surrounded by many marble manufacturers, this mountain is covered with steps, temples, caves and statues. The people carved the walls in the marble caves with the typical patterns and statues of lions, dragons, buddhas and many more. After an hour discovering most of the mazelike paths and hidden spots the mountain was closing and I had to get down to finish my ride.
    The last bit just strait along the beach was easy and I arrived in Hoi An.    Weiterlesen

    Hue

    After another chilled 5 hours busride we arrived in Hue. Planed to take it easy and that's exactly what we did. 3 Nights in a nice cosy Hotel in the middle of the walking street with all the nice restaurants and bars.
    First day was beauty day. Treated ourselves with a fresh haircut and 2 hours beauty salon with the full program of mani-/Pedicure, facial-and earcleaning, foot and head massage. I tell you it felt close to heaven after 2 weeks of a fully booked timetable.
    Afterwards a nice dinner and couple cocktails and the day was perfect 😇
    Next day already started looking different. I reckon the super tasty medium tuna steak wasn't the right choice 🤦
    Luckily it was raining buckets, so lying in bed pretty much the whole day and sorting some stuff was a good option while having some really shitty stomachcramps.
    Third day went for a walk around the city and the old imperial citadel which wasn't as impressive as expected cause. Two Mainbuildings where closed for restauration so. Nevertheless a quiet and relaxing stroll through nice gardens with bonsais and some old walls and buildings.
    Pretty done from the midday sun back to AC and bed to regain some energy for the next day. A nice bike ride to Hoi An was lying ahead.    Weiterlesen

    Paradise Cave

    There are some of the most beautiful caves in the world located around Phong Nha. Also the biggest cave - Son Doong - is here, but sadly almost impossible to visit (3000$ and years of waiting list)
    So I picked the paradise cave and went for a 4 hours adventure expedition.
    The Cave is 34 km long in total and you can cross the boarder to Laos underground but only 7kms are open for public.
    The first Kilometer is prepared with a wooden walkway and colourfull LEDs you can walk without guide and at the end we went down some steps and started venturing into the pitch black. Crossing streams and puddles, sliding over muddy steps and trying to light up these huge halls with the biggest stalactites/-mites I ever saw.
    After a while we came to the end of the track and went for a quite refreshing swim in the underground lake. Had some nice lunch and stumbled all the way back while taking pictures as much as possible.
    Had a lot of fun with the group and our guide. Thanks for this unique experience.    Weiterlesen

    Bai Dinh Pagode

    Vietnams biggest buddhist temple complex. Just WOW.
    Planned to stay 2 hours...took us almost 4 😅 there is nothing what's not stunning and massive.
    The new and big part of the complex was just recently built from 2003-2010 and some constructions are still ongoing.

    Tam Coc - Trang An

    We thought Ninh Binh is the place to go but luckily our Bus dropped us in Tam Coc close by.
    Arrived during one of the heaviest poor downs I had for a while we sat down in a nice restaurant and waited a while until we could walk the 200 meters to our Homestay without getting drenched.
    Little Tam Coc turned out to be the best choice for a base for the surrounding ToDos which are quite a few. Besides the different temples there is this network of rivers winding through rice fields and mountains and carved their way through several caves.
    Easiest and most fun way is always a scooter in Vietnam so we crapped 3 and took off with two other fellow travelers. Visiting the old capital of Vietnam "Hoa Lu" which wasn't as impressive as expected. More of a small temple and some left over ruins and a nice viewpoint. Still nice to visit and the rides around here are always a joy.
    Next stop was Trang An (Funfact: Kong - Skull Island was filmed here).
    You basically jump on a boat with 4 people and get rowed around through some caves to visit temples. We helped paddling and enjoyed the ride and silence of these hidden spots which are only reachable by boat.
    For sunset we went to the Mua Caves (like everyone else 😏). Actually not so cavy and more hilly with a couple of steps to climb rewarding you with again a scenic view.
    The top was packed to the last centimeter and everyone were sitting on the spicky rocks to wait for the sun to drop.
    Back in Tam Coc we strolled around looking for Dinner (nice Pizza in the end, didn't had some western food for a while) and later dropped dead into bed after this long day.
    Scooter riding is actually quite exhausting after some KMs.    Weiterlesen

    Ha Long Bay

    A lot of islands and limestone rocks a bit similar to Puketh or Krabi in Thailand just way bigger. Besides of some small beaches hidden between the towering rocks and some caves to kayak through to discover more hidden bays, there are also the floating villages where they farm different seafoods.
    Our boat went off in the morning with a bunch of different and how we found out later some super nice people with really interesting stories to share. We were cruising around and had stops for swimming and kayaking. Everything in a big group around 30 people which I normally try to avoid while exploring scenic naturesites but with these people we had lot of fun and good talks.. And they weren't too noisy like some other partyboats we saw.
    Enjoying this beautiful trip while trying not to get burned to much wasn't easy and in the end didn't work out well... Was glowing like a crab in the evening.
    All in all absolutely worth the money and IMHO (and what I heard from others) enough to experience this unique part of the world. 3 days cruises would be a bit repeating and probably fits better for some romantic or luxury people.    Weiterlesen

    Cat Ba

    Cat Ba as the biggest Island of those 2000 islands in Halong Bay was our low budget choice for exploring this UNESCO world heritage site instead of hopping on one of those fancy luxury multi-day cruise ships everyone else is doing.
    Arrived in the morning with actually the first raindrops we had so far in Vietnam (drizzling for maybe 20mins), had another delicious egg coffee while waiting for our room to get ready.
    After short rest we were stood on our balcony and saw a Hotel burning to ashes in the far.
    Weird start for Cat Ba.. Shit happens.
    Got out, catched some food and jumped on scooters to go for exploring the surroundings. After some beautiful viewpoints, bit of worldwar history and speeding through the countryside we got back had a nice dinner and booked our daycruise for 20 bugs for the next day.    Weiterlesen
