      Gold Coast: Baden im Wellenmeer

      Heute ist das Wetter perfekt. Nicht zu heiss aber auch nicht zu kalt.
      Den Tag beginnen wir mit einem Frühstück auf dem sonnigen Balkon. Danach gehts an den Strand. Die Wellen sind hoch. Wir werden hin und her gestossen. Schwimmen ist nicht möglich. Aber es macht Spass.
      Am Mittag gibt es eine scharfe Thai Suppe und danach eine „Messina“ Glace.

      Natur Bridge

      Am nächsten Tag ging es weiter zum Byron Bay und Lighthouse. Da jedoch Sonntag war, warwn die Straßen, Parkplätze und auch der Leuchtturm viel zu überfüllt und zusätzlich kostete er Eintritt...
      Also ging es weiter über Brunswick Head und Kingcliff nach Coologatta zum Snapper Rocks - Lookout. Alles relativ Menschen überloffen und erinnerte an Miami Beach mit den ganzen Hochhäusern direkt am Meer, was auf der einen Seite ganz cool war, aber wir hatten keine Lust auf Trubel.
      Also fuhren wir weiter an der Gold Coast entlang, meideten die ganzen Städte am Meer und fuhren ins Landesinnere zum Springbrook National Park. Eine wirklich sehr steile und kurvige Straße führte hier zur Natur Bridge & Waterfall. Es war wirklich ein super schön angelegter Weg durch den Wald bis runter an die Natur Bridge. Diese stellte sich als eine halb offene Höhle heraus, bei der direkt am Eingang ein riesiges Loch in der Decke klaffte, durch die ein kleiner Wasserfall hinunter fiel. Das war wirklich genial, man konnte in diese halbe Höhle und von unten, sowie über die Höhle und von oben das Loch mit dem Wasserfall betrachten.
      Danach fuhren wir wieder in Richtung Küste zum
      Surfer Paradise, da wir dort für den Abend ein Brasilianisches BBQ gebucht hatten. Unsere Farmfamilie aus Neuseeland hatte uns ein Gutschein zum Abschied geschenkt und davon gingen wir wirklich super gut Fleisch essen😅 Da wir jedoch noch etwas Zeit hatten fuhren wir zuerst an den Mermaid Beach baden, bevor wir dem Brazilian BBQ den Kampf ansagen. Bevor noch die Getr auf dem Tisch standen, wurde uns schon das erste zarte Stück Rindfleisch auf den Teller geschnitten, so muss es sein🥩🥩 Außerdem konnten wir sogar Kanguruoo und Krokodilfleisch probieren, was auch sehr lecker war, aber man nicht jeden Tag essen möchte😄
      Übernachtet haben wir dann (für zwei Tage auf dem Big 4 gold coast holiday park der wirklich absolut geil war, mit super schönen Einrichtungen in denen sich sogar große Aquarien befanden. Als wir dann abends noch etwas spazieren gingen, lag plötzlich eine riesige Schlange (wir vermuten bzw. hoffen das es eine Python war) mitten auf dem Weg. Damit beendet wir dann unsere kleine Nachtwanderung, aber es war wirklich genial so eine Schlange in freier Wildbahn gesehen zu haben. 🐍🐍      Leia mais

      Wir haben wieder 5 Tage einen Camper und wollten den ersten Tag eigentlich am Strand verbringen. Das Wetter war aber eher bewölkt und verregnet, daher sollte es dann doch eine Wanderung werden.
      Also ging es in den Springbrook Nationalpark. Dort ist ein kleiner Wasserfall mit einer natürliche Brücke. Ein kleiner Rundweg führte zu den schönsten Aussichtspunkten und in eine Glühwürmchen Höhle. Die Glühwürmchen waren nur leider nicht da.
      Der Wasserfall war schon ganz cool aber diese Regenwald Bäume ♥️

      Terug naar het Krijt in Springbrook

      's Avonds vallen er veel buien en ook gedurende de nacht gaat dit door. Ik heb last van jetlag en ben al twee dagen op rij midden in de nacht klaarwakker helaas. Rond een uur of 6 is het licht, gelukkig hebben we goede verduistering in de camper. Helaas regent het nog steeds en na het ontbijt gaan we op hoop van zegen vroeg op pad. We rijden eerst tot het einde van de weg bij Bilbrough Falls, waar we wachten tot de regen stopt.

      Dat er hier regenwoud is sinds de dino's nog rondliepen is niet verwonderlijk. Als de wind uit zee zit zoals nu wordt vochtige lucht tegen het plateau aangeblazen en valt er veel regen. Eigenlijk is dit een oude kraterrand van een supervulkaan, die een doorsnee had van zo'n 40 km.We lopen een kort stukje naar de rand waar de waterval een honderd meter naar beneden valt. Veel uitzicht hebben we niet, maar het en der komen er wat heuveltoppen uit de wolken tevoorschijn.

      Onderweg naar het Best of All Lookout zien we verschillende Wallibies de weg oversteken. Hoewel de zon bijna doorbreekt is het vandaag The worst of all en is er nul zicht. Jammer, want het moet echt schitterend zijn. De volgende stop is Purlingbrook Falls. We wandelen door het regenwoud een stuk naar beneden en moeten eerst door het koude water van de rivier om aan de andere kant het water 106 meter naar beneden te zien vallen. In de vallei beneden staan verschillende woudreuzen van tientallen meters hoog.

      We verlaten het park door dezelfde weg als gisteren weer naar beneden te nemen, dus 17 procent in de laagste versnelling. Beneden rijden we door een vallei met veel koeien naar The Natural Bridge wat ook bij het Springbrook N.P. hoort. Daar dalen we via een pad af door het regenwoud. Het staat vol met bomen van tientallen meters hoog, sommige hebben een parasiet boom om de stam zitten. De takken van andere bomen zijn begroeid met strengen mos. De vele regen van de afgelopen dagen maakt in combinatie met de zon een mooi schouwspel van licht en water.

      We steken de rivier over en komen dan bij de natuurlijke brug. Dit is een lavagrot waar door een gat met veel geweld een waterval gaat. In de grot leven veel gloeiwormen (kleine organismen : geen echte worm). Deze zijn alleen in het donker te zien.

      De volgende keer gaan we New South Wales in naar Byron Bay en zien we veel schade door de overstromingen van de afgelopen maanden.      Leia mais

      Springbrook National Park

      Petit réveil avec les pancakes qui mettent bien. Maintenant, on a notre rituel : pancake le matin = pancake au "bacon 'n egg" le midi avec le surplus ! Ça nous chauffe tellement que Flo fredonne une chanson à ce sujet pendant une bonne partie de la rando, on chante à tue-tête et ça motive pendant la balade ! 

      Sur la visite en elle-même, c'est très très très beau! On s'attendait pas à ça. Rien à voir avec nos précédents jours, car, ici, on passe d'une cascade à l'autre à chaque kilomètre. Et on passe même sous les cascades, c'est inédit pour nous et ça nous laisse un sacré souvenir. 

      Petit bémol sur la fin, Flo pensait avoir un trou dans sa chaussette, car elle "sentait une texture bizarre". Au final, c'est juste une épine (ou quelque chose dans le genre, on ne sait pas trop) qui la faisait saigner. Ce n'était rien de grave, mais vu qu'elle n'aime pas le sang, quelques gouttes sur le pied et la chaussette et elle tourne de l'œil. Donc la version qu'on retient, c'est qu'elle a failli se noyer dans son sang et qu'elle a eu de la chance d'en réchapper (cette version rend sa réaction sur le moment plus compréhensible.)       Springbrooke National Park 🩸🪱

      Pffffuuuuääääääää!!! Was als toller Track begann wurde zum richtigen Abenteuer 🙈 Gut zugegeben, das Wetter war schon nicht stabil als wir losgelaufen sind…aber dass es dann richtig anfing zu Regnen (laut Wetterbericht eben nicht) war nicht abzusehen.

      Es war eine Wanderung mitten durch den Dschungel mit Schlangen, Spinnen, Eidechsen, Gewitter, Flüsse überqueren und am schlimmsten, Blutegel überall…als wir nach 15km endlich wieder am Auto waren, waren wir nass bis auf die Knochen und durften uns ersteinmal die angezapften Blutegel absammeln…lecker ☹️      Leia mais

      Gold Coast

      Terminé la Sunshine Coast, on descend sous Brisbane pour atteindre la Gold Coast.

      Visite de Surfer Paradise pour notre 1ere journée.
      Beaucoup de gratte-ciels, la ville est plutôt surfaite...

      Le lendemain, excursion au parc national de Springbrook dans les terres.
      La forêt, les chutes d'eau qui rappellent la force, les walabys qui traversent la route... On croise même un opossum pendant le dîner 🤩
      On est sous le charme !

      Cependant, toujours de grosses difficultés d'accès à cause des inondations, beaucoup de routes barrées et de déviations (qui ne sont d'ailleurs pas indiquées, merci Waze !).
      De plus, la nuit a été tonitruante : orage de fou à 2 pas... On a très peu dormi dans notre van 😱⚡

      Une très belle rencontre dans la forêt d'eucalyptus... Malheureusement ce n'était pas un Koala 🐨...      Leia mais

      The start of our walkabouts adventure

      While our presence in Australia appears to have solved the drought problem (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-australia-5028…) the last two days have been frustrating. We had hoped to have been on our way several days ago. We’d hoped to have Big Bertha on Friday but it didn’t happen.

      On Sunday we made a trip to an enormous DIY type warehouse that sold everything, literally everything. We made a list of things we would need for Bertha, a couple of camping chairs, a camping table .... repairing stuff, kitchen stuff, emergency stuff, eating and cleaning stuff .... quite a list.

      On Monday we hung around awaiting the call to pick up Bertha but received a call to say that the part still hadn’t arrived. While the engineers had cut a hole for the new part, so that it will be fitted as soon as it arrives, the work still needs to be approved by the gas inspector.

      Today we were told that the part had arrived and was being fitted, but we still had to hope that the inspector would have a chance to inspect it and approve it. Today is Melbourne Cup day so we just hope that no one involved is a horse racing fan.

      So that we didn’t spend our time kicking our heals we decided to head for the Gold Coast and look around or lay on the beach. On the way we would drop into IKEA to buy Bun an orthopaedic pillow for her neck. On our way we received a call that the van was finished and approved, no beach today

      When we arrived to collect Bertha she was wired up to the mains with the a/c working and was beautifully cold inside. When she had been sold to the dealer, she contained “everything needed” and this was in a pile in a garage. We were told that we could take anything we wanted. Cutlery, cleaning materials, fuses, spare fan belts, picnic chairs,and table, toaster, kettle ... and so forth. We loaded it all on board.

      Bertha comes with about 3kg of keys! I don’t know how many sets there are. There are a number of storage spaces each accessible from outside and each with their own door that has a lock or two. Why each lock isn’t suited the same, I don’t know. Tomorrow we will sort them all.

      We were shown how to sort the toilet, the gas, the fridge, the cooker .... information overload. Then we moved Bertha and were shown the awning. Time to go home.

      We travelled 20yds to the fuel station and filled Bertha up I was using my hone for satnav and it sat happily on the dashboard until about 400yds down the road and I’d turned onto the motorway. The remaining 50 miles (plus detours from missed turnings etc) was miserable with respect to directions, but Bertha behaved well.

      She’s parked up, locked up and will be sorted out tomorrow. Will we leave Brisbane tomorrow or Thursday? No plan yet.      Leia mais

      Camper Vans - Tweed Heads South

      Our plan .... no, it’s not a plan because we are not allowed to have one, our thoughts are to buy a camper and go walkabouts. Head north, see the barrier reef, do some diving, back to Brisbane for Christmas, see the kids, see in the new year, head south, Sidney, south coast, Melbourne, maybe Adelaide, back to Melbourne, catch a plane back to KL. Simple. Just need a camper van.

      We have been looking at vans on the Aussie gumtree. There are many good looking vans. Some basic, some quirky. The cost is less critical than what we lose on it between buying in Brisbane and selling in Melbourne. The most basic camper will cost us around Aus $50 per day to rent, approval $7,500 for 5 months. However, the most basic won’t allow us to take the six of us when Toby, Jessica and their partners come over for Christmas.

      We decided to go to a dealer in Tweed Heads South (THS) so that we could have a look at a range of.vans.

      THS is across the border in New South Wales. The time zone is currently one hour ahead of Queensland. If we were to fly the airport terminal is in NSW but part of the runway goes into QLD and is, technically, in a different time zone.

      The dealership had about 20 vans, we were looking at the more budget end. The photos on gumtree must have been taken by the same person who does house sale photos and can make a tiny box room look like an enormous double bedroom. We learnt a lot, mostly about what we didn’t want, a little about what we would lik (all round mosquito curtains) but couldn’t find a van we liked. Decided to retire for a coffee and rethink.

      The coffee shop was in NSW, south of THS and shut at 4. We set of and were due to arrive at 3:30 if we got a wiggle on. When we arrive£ we found that, despite being in NSW, they worked on QLD time and it was only 2:30. Very confusing.

      The previous day we had arranged to meet Carl and his girlfriend who had a quirky camper for sale. They had driven it from Brisbane to Sidney bcuase someone had said that they would buy it, but then didn’t. They were driving back from Sidney and we arranged to meet in the IKEA car park south of Brisbane. The van was certainly quirky and had been built to a high standard, but it was tiny.       Lamington Nationalpark

      Gestern am Abend nachdem wir im Nationalpark angekommen waren, sind wir in der *Stockfieschtri* in den Urwald um Glühwürmchen zu sehen. 💡Etwas gruselig - aber es hat sich gelohnt. (Glühwürmli Foto isch verschwumu) 😂

      Heute haben wir diese Wanderung dann nochmals bei Tageslicht gemacht! 🌳🏕️ Auch schön.

      Danach sind wir weiter nach Byron Bay gefahren.
      Sind nun auf einem netten Campingplatz und chillen heute.
      PS: Da die letzte Nacht eiskalt war, haben wir nun ein Duvet gekauft‘ damit Alessandra nicht mit der Regenjacke schlafen muss.

      Wir hoffen auf eine entspannte Nacht. Tschüssli
