      Deja vu in Espalmador

      Our second round of days spend in Espalmador passed us all by in a blissful haze. The weather was somewhat mixed, but a damp boat did not dampen our spirts!
      We had multiple different neighbours over the course of our stay, ranging from music-blasting giants to day tripping RIBs. A Scottish yacht by the name of Aphrodite had drinks on the beach with us one night, and as the adults talked, the kids made ludicrous sand-based constructions.
      There was plenty of cooking done during our stay, with us making white yeast bread, blue-iced cupcakes and a delicious chickpea tart one night for dinner. (Courtesy of Margaret)
      We swam daily, sometimes with and sometimes without wetsuits. In the middle of the day, when the temperature was at its max, you could have stayed in for hours! The water was beautifully clear, and just splendid to muck around in.
      On our first stay, about a week beforehand, the beach was white and sparkling as far as the eye could see. However, this was not the case this time around! The rough weather that we hid from in Ibiza marina had not been absent here. About two thirds of the beach was now covered in a layer of dead sea grass! When you walked through it, up to your knees would be covered without your foot even touching the ground.

      A weekend with May and Shamie

      My cousin May and her boyfriend Shamie are on holidays in Mallorca for Shamies 19 birthday!We are looking forward to meeting them for a few days of their visit.
      We motor out of Porto Colom, bright and early, on Saturday morning. Puttering along the coast, we stick our heads into a few little harbours before going to anchor in one. This particular place is our rendezvous point to meet May and Shamie, and is aptly named Cala Romántica.
      Dad and Colm go in to the beach to pick up our guests on the dinghy, whilst Mom and I eagerly await their arrival. After they arrive we all go swimming together off the back off the boat and then we settle down with some delicious sandwiches. After lunch, May, Shamie, Colm and I get on to the SUPs, and paddle around each other in the clear turquoise water.
      We dry off, lift our anchor and head to Porto Cristo. Docking was a bit stressful but soon forgotten once the merits of this lovely port come into focus. There is a majestic black catamaran motor cruiser just across from us, and we soon find out that it belongs to none other then Rafael Nadal, the No.1 tennis player in the world!
      Everyone goes for a quick shower or a dip at the nearby beach and we get ready to hit the town. Ronan stays at the boat to listen a rugby match while the rest of us go into a bar for an aperitif. We meet dad at a seaside restaurant and have a gorgeous meal together before May and Shamie head home.

      Sunday morning is spent chatting with our neighbours. The crew of Kaos, a yacht who also spent winter in Cartagena , visit for coffee. Then we chat to Kit on Tiger Lilly, the boat-next-door. May and Shamie come soon afterwards and we get ready to go on the water and explore the harbour.
      On the two SUPs and in the dinghy, the six of us paddled out of the marina. We go to a little cove and then snorkel, SUP and dinghy along the cliffs and back into towards the beach. Colm and Shamie stop off and go jumping off the rocks with some locals.
      When we get back to the boat, Mom whips out a tray of pastries and serenades Shamie - it is his birthday after all.
      It’s time to say goodbye as they are going for a romantic dinner and we need to get ready for a day’s sailing tomorrow. It was truly wonderful to spend time with them      Lue lisää

      Heute kommt es aus, ob sich unsere Berechnung bewahrheitet.

      0700 Uhr weckte uns der Wecker. Wir begannen den Transporter zu beladen und führten exakt dazu eine entsprechende Inventarliste. Diese müssen wir dann am Schweizer Zoll vorlegen.

      Die Hecktüren konnten wir kurz nach 1530 Uhr schliessen. Es hatte alles Platz. Genau so wie wir dies geplant hatten.      Lue lisää

      Portocristo

      Wie geplant, so gemacht. (Macht man doch auch meistens so, oder? 😎😀 Okay, wir halt nicht immer. )

      Nach dem "Frühstücksstress" fuhren wir Richtung Portocristo. Dort wollten wir nicht nur den Hafen sehen, sondern auch die Drachenhöhlen (Las Cuevas del Drach) besichtigen.
      Um den Eintritt dafür besser planen zu können, fuhren wir erst nach Portocristo und kauften dann von irgendeinem Parkplatz aus online die Tickets.
      So konnten wir unseren Zeitplan selbst bestimmen, muss man sich doch auf eine feste Uhrzeit im Vorgang zum Ticketkauf festlegen.
      Es passte zu unserem Glück an diesem Tag, dass alles ohne Hektik so toll nach unserer Vorstellung ablaufen konnte.

      Also in aller Ruhe von irgendwo in der Stadtmitte zu den Cuevas del Drach gefahren, einen schönen, schattigen Parkplatz gefunden (was dort nicht wirklich schwer ist) und in aller Gemütsruhe Richtung Eingang geschlendert, wo wir eine viertel Stunde vor Beginn eingetroffen sind. Perfekt.

      Die Höhle ist unserer Meinung nach in jedem Fall ein Besuch wert. Natürlich, man muss auch ein Faible für derartige Naturformen haben, das ist klar. Aber, wie auch in anderen ähnlichen Gebilden ist es schon beeindruckend, wie die Natur sich ihr Gesicht "baut".
      Stalaktiten, Stalagmiten - von oben nach unten, von unten nach oben... es ist bewundernswert. Dann die kühl wirkenden, farblich ins Blau driftenden, kleinen Seen: die bewegungslos scheinenden, so klaren Gewässer beeindrucken nicht minder.

      Wenn zum Abschluss live gespielte, klassische Musik von einem vorbei fahrenden Boot erklingt, so mag dies möglicherweise nicht jedermanns Geschmack sein, aber die Akustik der Höhle lässt doch die meisten überrascht zurück und abgesehen von der Musik ist es mucksmäuschenstill.

      Zum Abschluss die wenigen Meter Richtung Ausgang sich von einem Boot (12 bis 15 Personen fassend) dorthin rudern zu lassen ist in der punktuell beleuchtenden Höhle nochmal ein kleines Erlebnis.
      Dann den Rest des Weges über einige (oder eher mehrere) Stufen zum endgültigen Ausgang und schon ist man der traumbehafteten Umgebung entschwunden.

      Durchschnaufen...

      Nächster Plan:
      zum Hafen von Portocristo.

      Eine ganz andere Welt, nicht ganz so spektakulär, aber eben halt anders schön, um sich wohl zu fühlen.
      Kleine Segelboote, kleine und kleinere Motorboote, größere Yachten bis hin zum riesig wirkenden, schwarzen Katamaran (der uns optisch nicht wirklich so gefallen hat).
      Und auf vielen von denen liegt noch Saharastaub, der erst dieser Tage auf sie herunter geregnet wurde.
      Einladende Restaurants und Bars säumen die Anlegeplätze der Wasserfahrzeuge.
      Egal wo auch immer - ein Hafen ist immer ein Wohlfühlort mit einem Gefühl, das Freiheit vermittelt.

      Nach dem Hafenbesuch fuhren wir wieder zurück nach Can Picafort ins Hotel, wo wir uns auf das Abendbuffet freuten.
      Heute war "italienischer Abend".

      Das Beste Buffet der ganzen Woche bisher (wenn es nach Bernhard geht). 😎😎😎
      Nun denn, mal sehen, was es morgen noch gibt 😀

      ... Zumindest schon mal nen Plan für unsere nächste Unternehmung.....

      Heute fahren wir Richtung Osten in die bekannte Perlenfabrik Majorica. Anschließend ging es weiter nach Porto Cristo in die berühmte Tropfsteinhöhle. Uns hat die Musik- und Lichtshow sehr beeindruckt. Ein weiterer Höhepunkt war der Besuch des Museum "Els Calderers.Lue lisää

      Premier jour

      Bon petit récapitulatif déjà là maintenant il pleut bon on s’en doutait c’était le jour noir un peu du voyage mais là il pleut vraiment. L’avion s’est super bien passé. Léa m’a fait trop rire parce que pour elle c’était une première fois franchement on s’est super bien démerdé pour arriver jusqu’à l’hôtel la chambre est vraiment trop mignonne elle est plutôt grande on a un super beau balcon et on a tellement bien dormi. Genre le lit il est parfait, on a goûté le KFC d’Ibiza, et honnêtement on valide.Lue lisää

      Sunning in Ibiza

      Leaving Valencia we had a short 30 minute Ryanair flight to the Spanish island of Ibiza - another smooth check in and no complaints with Ryanair. This completes Emily's Balearic island trio - something she never thought she'd say, and giving Mad access to the DJ hub of the world.

      Car exploration and the C’an Marça Caves

      Following a spontaneous Zouk dancing class last night, we pondered on how to spend our time today. Check out was 11am, but the hotel said we could store our luggage and use all the facilities all day which was good. But, after much consideration, we took the plunge and hired a rental car - an experience in itself driving on the wrong side of the road!
      First up was exploring the Dalt Vila - the old town in Ibiza. This medieval fortified city sits proudly at the top of Ibiza town, complete with bastion strong holds, a cathedral, various churches and old medieval buildings.
      We then headed north to Port de Sant Miguel, a lovely picturesque cove away from main tourist hubs and a popular spot for locals. We explored the C’an Marça Caves, used by smugglers to store their tobacco, coffee and alcohol. I wouldn't want to be a smuggler though, they had to crawl through a 40-50cm tall hole for 37 metres to get out in an emergency!
      Unfortunately there was no parking in the main town so we headed back south for lunch, then onto San Raphael to stop past 2 of the island biggest clubs - Amnesia and Privilege. All closed up for the day but Mad got a sneak peek inside before the cleaners caught him. These buildings are absolutely enormous, I couldn't imagine the atmosphere where they're packed out. Mad didn't get to go to a club in the end as it turns out Wednesday night is akin to a Sunday night and the only thing on was a flower power 1960s-1970s music night (personally that sounds much better to me lol), but these clubs down even open until 11.30pm so it would have been too late for our check out the next day.
      We had time for a quick swim before heading to the airport, where we currently lounge waiting for our slightly delayed flight.      Lue lisää

      Die Steilküste von Formentera

      Heut ging es wieder auf die Nachbarinsel Ibizas Formentera. Der eigentlich geplante Katamaran musste aufgrund des hohen Wellengangs leider abgesagt werden. Doch auch mit der Fähre war der Wellengang schon deutlich zu spüren. Das Wetter war für die Küstenwanderung aber gar nicht so verkehrt. Nur für den anschließenden Strandaufenthalt hätte sich die Sonne gern öfters zeigen können.Lue lisää

      Es Cubells, Es Vedra und Can Costa

      Heute gab es den ein oder anderen Panoramablick auf die Küste Ibizas und Formentera während einer ausgiebigen Wanderung bei 35 Grad zu erhaschen. Die Erkundungstour endete - wie soll es auch anders sein - in einem ibizenkischen Landhaus mit inseltypischen Produkten wie Wein, Kräuterlikör sowie Wurst und Feigendessert. Ich gewöhne mich langsam an die Verköstigung. 😉Lue lisää
