    Day 10 🇩🇰

    July 30, 2022 in Denmark ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

    Goodmorning from Copenhagen!
We got to Stamos’s at about 4:30 in the morning. Had a shower and fell asleep till 10:00. Then we got up, Stamos made us breakfast (bacon and eggs!) and then he had some work to do in his office so we walked around the zoo. Copenhagen Zoo is a beautiful park with animals we haven’t seen before (pandas, polar bears!) and lot’s of small shops you can eat and drink from. We walked around for a couple of hours so Stamos could get some work done, and enjoyed the lovely day and the animals. After a while, he called me so we could meat at the Panda’s house🐼. He came all dressed up in his uniform and was talking on his walkie talkie. He then took us in to the pandas and we met the male panda Xian Air. He was eating bamboo and had his back turned on us, but we were allowed to pet his back! Who can say they’ve petted a panda??
His fur was super soft and clean, and he was super cute too. We sat a bit there with his care keeper and then went along. We also went into the female’s house, Mao Sun, but she wasn’t interested in seeing us. Then we went to see the tiger 🐯 he was new to the zoo and very shy, but also super massive! They take turns with the female tiger who’s going to be outside and who’s going to be in the stable. They don’t have the best relationships yet, but hopefully they’ll get there!
Then another zookeeper (I don’t remember his name but Stamos calls him egg master😂) took us to see the flamingoes and explained to us how they manage to help the flamingoes hatch eggs and actually keep them and not abandon them. This time they had loads of baby flamingoes around and more that were hatching, which is a big win for the zoo and the zookeeper since they’re his passion. After that we decided to sit and eat something small since we were all getting hungry, so we decided on a Mexican stall with tacos and nachos. They were super tasty and just enough for us to continue on our expedition around the zoo. Then we went and got some churros, walked back to Stamos’s office to have coffees and sit for a little bit before going back out again! ❤️

    Day 9🇩🇪

    July 29, 2022 in Germany ⋅ ☁️ 26 °C

Woke up in Fürth, a small village near Nürnberg, Germany. We went into town early to get breakfast and walk around before our train for Berlin. Stopped at a local bakery and got a few pastries and a coffee from the nearby Starbucks. I felt quite tired so I was a bit grumpy that morning (sorry Lampros!).
Today is a big day of travelling, since our final destination will be Copenhagen, Denmark. It’s a big trip with 5 different trains to catch. There are direct trains to Copenhagen from Hamburg but they’re all booked and we can’t get any seats. So it’ll have to be that way! We are prepared!
Getting to Berlin we had just a couple of hours, so we walked out of the station, went to gate of Brandenburg, saw the parliament “Reichstag” building and the Jew monument. Then walked back to the station, had a delicious Chinese “make yourself” bowl, and ran to our next train. Next destination Hamburg.
Getting to Hamburg we had an hour to spend, so we again walked out, went about a bit and then back to the station. From Hamburg, we had to go Flensburg. In the beginning we got the wagons mixed up a bit, so we had to run to the right one and I got a bad cramp - but we eventually got there and found seats next to each other. The time was passing and we were getting tired..
Getting to Flensburg we had to wait for two hours before the next train. When that train arrived there were only two wagons but a lot more people then they could fit. The train journey was 1h 30m, and more than half the people on the train were standing cause they weren’t any seats. On top of that, because we were crossing boarders they had to check our passports so they made all the people that were standing to get off the train and then board it again. Getting to Fredericia we - again - had about an hour to spare and we were getting hungry, but there was nothing around to eat - plus it was super early in the morning so there was also nothing open. We shared a couple of cereal bars and waited for the next train. It started getting cold so I changed from shorts to trousers. At last, our last train arrived, we boarded quickly and tried to sleep. Last destination - Copenhagen!
We arrived in Copenhagen early hours of the morning, found the bus to the zoo and called Stamos to open up for us! It felt so nice to be here. ❤️ home away from home. Having a shower, getting to bed and waking up to lots of washing!!!!😂👖👚👕🧼🛁🧺

    Day 8 part 2!🇨🇿🇩🇪

    July 28, 2022 in Germany ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

By this time though, we had to head back to the hotel to collect our rucksacks. On our way there we passed Lennon wall which I loooveeed and Charles bridge again. On the bridge we passed a stand with beautiful pictures of the Lennon wall and got a few for my room. My favourite kind of souvenir. ❤️
After getting our rucksacks we went on the tram to visit the dancing house, a unique building with glass that looks like it’s twisted (I would say).
Then we had to get on the train for a 5 hour ride to Nuremberg. On the way I slept and Lampros was looking at our next train journeys we will have to plan. We also booked our next stays and some other exciting things I’m not going to reveal!!
Getting to Nuremberg we went to Furth where our hostel is to leave our rucksacks. Then we went into Nuremberg for something to eat and to walk around. There was a classical concert going on with a lot of people, and stands of beer and local food. We got two sausages with bread and a beer each and enjoyed the remaining of the concert. Then we headed back to the train station to go to our room and get some rest. Tomorrow is a day full of travelling so we need the batteries! Goodnight from Germany!

    Day 8!🇨🇿🇩🇪

    July 28, 2022 in Czech Republic ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

    Hello from Nuremberg!
We woke up today in Prague, Czech Republic. Our checkout wasn’t till 12:00 so we left our rucksacks and went in to town. First we had breakfast at a small caffè with croissants that were super fresh!
Then we went and explored. First we visited the Old town square, a beautiful central part of the medieval town of Prague. There, you can see Prague’s astronomical clock, it’s been there since the 15th century and still works with it’s old mechanism. This makes it the world’s third oldest astronomical clock, and the first to still work!
We went up to see the view and it was beautiful. Then we headed for Charles bridge, which was built in 1357 by the then king (I don’t remember his name😂) and is full of beautiful statues. On there, locals set benches for selling their art pieces or handcrafted jewellery. We then headed to the palace, on a small hill opposite Charles bridge. We climbed up 287 steps to the top of the chapel St. Vitus, and again the view was spectacular!

    Day 7🇦🇹🇨🇿

    July 27, 2022 in Czech Republic ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

    Day 7!
We woke up in Vienna and went to the train station to leave our rucksacks. Our first stop was the Belvedere palace, where the national gallery is and Gustav Klimt’s “the kiss” that I really really wanted to see! It’s my favourite painting so I was excited to see it up close. We got there, walked around the garden of the palace, got our tickets for the upper Belvedere and walked around to see the paintings.
They were all beautiful, there was also a Van Gogh one too and the Klimt exhibition was spectacular. I loved all the colours and especially “the kiss”. ❤️
After that we went to the gift shop and I got a bag with the famous painting on it. We left the gallery and went looking around the shops. When we went to leave one of the shops, it was poring with rain and we had to buy an umbrella cause we didn’t have anything suitable with us😬.
We walked around Vienna for a bit longer. We also went to the Fenster cafe to have a “fensterchinno”, it’s a cappuccino in an ice cream cone! Very different, and the coffee was delicious. We then headed to a lovely park in the city to walk a bit around, and visited a big shopping centre.
The time was passing and we had to board our train to Prague Czech Republic. The duration was 4h 30m. When we got there we had 10 minutes to check in the hostel, so Lampros ran in-front and left me a little bit behind. When we got to the hostel there was a problem with our reservation - the guy there didn’t have our reservation and couldn’t check us in, even though we had paid for it and had an email for confirmation. The situation wasn’t like what we had booked, so we decided to leave, go somewhere else and ask for our money back through booking.com. We were tired and it was late so found another hotel, showered and slept! Another day tomorrow in Prague🇨🇿

    Day 6 part 2!🇦🇹

    July 26, 2022 in Austria ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

So on our way to Vienna, we changed our plans and thought we’d make a stop in Salzburg. There we walked in a beautiful park with lots and lots of beautiful blooming flowers, passed the house that Mozart was born in, walked a little bridge called Mozartsteg and visited the Mozartplaz😂 as you can imagine there were Mozart memorabilia everywhere.
Then we boarded the next train, with finally our destination for the night - Vienna. I’ve been wanting to visit Vienna so much, especially for the fact that Gustav Klimt is from here and my favorite painting is “the Kiss”. I can’t wait to visit it tomorrow and admire it from up close. We found our Hostel for the night, left our rucksacks and went out to have a look around and find something to eat. We walked to Stefansplatz with the big church, then up the road with all the expensive boutiques and the opera house. Our walk ended at the Rathaus, the municipal building, where there was - to our surprise - a film festival going on, with shops with food from all over the world and a big TV screen with a classical music concert going on. It was so pretty and magical. We sat for a bit and enjoyed the concert but couldn’t stop laughing at the Maestro’s funny gestures😂. I know I shouldn’t but it’s just so funny for someone who doesn’t understand what he’s doing. Then we decided to eat at the festivals food booths, so we had two Chinese dishes and two Austrian beers. That was fantastic to end the night with the best tone. We had to take a tram back to our hostel cause we where too full to walk but it ended up well in the end. Showered like every night, put clean clothes on and fell asleep. See you in the morning!

    Day 6🇦🇹

    July 26, 2022 in Austria ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

Hello from my bunk bed in Vienna!
Today was the first day we didn’t get sweaty and hot!
We woke up in Innsbruck, rainy and cloudy. Got our rucksacks all tidied up and headed to breakfast. The hostel we where staying in was called Marmota hostel, beautiful interiors and so so nice staff. We weren’t in a dorm, we had a room to ourselves but the funny thing was that, although we had a private bathroom it wasn’t in the room but outside in the corridor. It didn’t bother us but it was funny to have to go out of the room to get there. Breakfast was amazing - and I’m not a person who eats a lot for breakfast!
After that, we collected our things and went to the bus stop to wait for the tram for the main train station. On our way out we met a cute little dog who sat for us to pet him. When at the train station, we left our big rucksacks in a locker for 3.5€, and walked along Innsbruck. We climbed a tower in the centre of the town and the view was beautiful. Also bought another patch for my bag. Photos for this part, part 2 next!

    Day 5, part 2!🇨🇭🇱🇮🇦🇹

    July 25, 2022 in Austria ⋅ ⛅ 32 °C

So after saying our goodbyes, we boarded the train and went to Liechtenstein, Vaduz. Super hot day so not the best for walking around, but we enjoyed the small town of Vaduz and walked along the bridge that connects Liechtenstein with Switzerland. In two countries at the same time!
We had some time to spare so we sat in a coffee shop for a little while. Lampros wanted something to snack on and I remembered I had a chocolate in my rucksack..when I went to open it the chocolate had all completely melted all over my stuff!
It was so funny. Thankfully everything could be wiped down and I didn’t get any clothes dirty, but my rucksack now smells like chocolate😂. For some reason Liechtenstein doesn’t show up on the rail app as an extra country, but we’ll be using the flag whatsoever.
We bought a couple of snacks from COOP and then boarded our next train to Austria!
Our final destination for tonight was Innsbruck, Austria, a small traditional town in the Austrian mountains. Very pretty, and very rainy! As we arrived we changed in boots and rain coats and tried to find somewhere to eat a schnitzel. We eventually found a shop that served, but it was closing down in under 20 minutes, so we eat quickly and then headed for our Hostel which was a bit of a walk out of town - but in the end totally worth it. Beautiful hostel and very nice staff.
    More tomorrow! Goodnight from Innsbruck!

    July 25, 2022 in Switzerland ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

    Goodmorning from Mels!
Today we woke up to a table full of breakfast - again as I said yesterday, Mathias and Martina really really looked after us. When we had all eaten, Mathias had to start work from home, so we said goodbye and Martina, Lampros and I went to the train station to go to Chur. We had to run to the bus stop cause we only had a few minutes before it left but we managed (Martina and Lampros in front - the runners - and me in the back following sweating away😂)
We arrived at Chur 20 minutes later. Chur is where Martina and Mathias lived before, and it’s where Martina works - I forgot to mention she’s also a teacher!
We walked around the old town and it was beautiful. I was looking for a patch for my bag from that canton - Martina went everywhere asking for one and we eventually found one in Manor. We also had coffee in her favourite coffee shop, the building was the old post office and it was super calm and pretty in there. We sat and chatted until we had to go to the train station and unfortunately say goodbye (but not for long)!
I got a bit emotional cause we had such a beautiful time with them both and I’m not good with goodbyes.. but we promised to meet again in Athens.❤️
    Part two soon!

    Day 4🇨🇭

    July 24, 2022 in Switzerland ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

    Today was a special day!
We woke up in Geneva and went for a morning coffee. Then we had to catch the train to Zurich. Scenery was lovely - as is the whole of Switzerland - and we enjoyed looking out the window. However we had a crying baby next to us which we felt sorry for (the whole duration of the ride was 2h 40m..). Arriving in Zurich was lovely, we had time to walk around, get a snack from COOP! (You know we love that supermarket), walk on Bahnhoffstrasse (the road with all the expensive shops) and remember the walks we had with Stamos back in 2019! It amazed me how I remembered where everything was and how to move around town. We also took a picture outside of the restaurant Stamos took us for Fondue.
After our walk, we boarded the train to Sargans. It was time to go find our friends, Martina and Mathias who we had met back in December in Aqaba, Jordan. We were both travelling from Jordan to Athens, when our car rental agency hadn’t arrived to collect the cars the morning of the flight🙄. Eventually, we boarded the plane and when we got to Athens I gave Martina a piece of paper with my name and Phone number on it just in case they needed any help while in Greece!
And that’s how it all happened. While they were still in Greece we met at Sweet Habit for a coffee and said we’d meet again.
So now was the day! We were so happy to see them again. Btw, Martina and Mathias had been travelling the world for 10 months and got back to Switzerland in April (I hope I’m not getting this wrong!) so we wanted to hear about their adventure!
They met us at Mels Post and it felt super nice to see them again. We went to their new house, they showed us around and we also met their new family member - Chewie the cat!
Then we all got our swimming costumes on and went to the pool to cool down. We taught them the word “χαλαρά” (halara) and it was funny to talk about the differences between our cultures.
They really looked after us! They prepared raclette, Matthias’s favourite Swiss food (the one he missed the most on their travelling) which is special cheese melted with all sorts of toppings over boiled baby potatoes. It was delicious!
Then we all sat and chatted which felt very familiar and spontaneous. It’s nice to have foreign friends ❤️
When it was bed time, Chewie was full of energy so I played with him for a bit to try and tire him out. Not entirely sure that worked, but he was super cute and jumping all over the place.
Martina and Mathias made us feel just like home - they promised to visit Athens so we’ll be waiting for them 100%!
