Our 1 night accommodation at YEHS Hotel apartments in Sussex St is very central to the Harbour & plenty of cafes & restaurants.
After a relaxing evening we are rested & ready for our 3 week cruise. We have all tested negative to Covid !

  • Day 4

    Brisbane

    March 9, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

Half hour bus trip into the CBD of Brisbane today. The temp. Is high 20s but I'm feeling the humidity & rainy conditions !

With a time change for Qld & an announcement at 3am calling staff to an emergency in the Engine Room. It took a while to get back to I sleep.

We were happy to wonder the CBD & visit various landmarks, but the rain got heavier & we returned to the ship.

  • Day 6

    Airlie Beach via Tender

    March 11, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

We woke early with the noise of the Tenders being lowered from midship.
Last year we visited Airlie, so today as Barry has a nasty chest infection, we decided to have a quiet one on deck.

Catching sight of groups returning, a wise move. From Tender there is a reasonable walk to the town & swimming lagoon. Temperature today 32deg & around 70% humidity. The sea is calm & a beautiful clear turquoise colour.

There is still plenty of options onboard, so finding a quite spot near one of the pools with a good book, puzzles & games or a movie, the day soon slips bye.

  • Day 7

    Yorkeys Knob ( Cairns)

    March 12, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

Today we arrived in Yorkeys Knob some 20km from Cairns.

While Csirns has a Terminal right on the Cairns Esplanade, it seems Majestic Princess is too large to dock!
So a Catamaran from ship to Yorkeys then bus to the Cairns CBD.

Here Andrew was waiting for us having driven from Townsville on Szturday.

We went directly to the Marina for a drink - temperature was hovering around 32deg with over 70% humidity but pleasant in the shade with a breeze.

We spent a pleasant few hours carching over lunch , and then it was time to return tokeys. Andrew got us back to the Terminal in time for the Tender sail to the ship. A short but very enjoyable day.

  • Day 11

    Darwin

    March 16, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

We have had excellent sailing conditions since leaving Cairns, in fact the Seas have been like a millpond !

A few things have meant it's been rather quiet for us as Barry has been unwell. He soldiered on in Cairns, as he didn't want to cancel seeing Andrew. Once back onboard his cough increased, & after various tests the doctor diagnosed pneumonia. Luckily we have a balcony which means he can sit outside & get fresh air. Hopefully in the next week he'll improve with the medication prescribed.

We are off ship today but our sightseeing is limited to getting supplies from the pharmacy & battling the humidity here in the NT.

Our friends onboard have been great , very supportive, which helps when travelling & we've made sure to delivery plenty of treats to Cabin E104!

Our cruise is very relaxing otherwise with lectures, movies, quiz shows & a high standard of talent as well.

Around 1% of the people onboard are unwell with either the gastro bug or Covid. This is a very small percentage but there is no self service in the Buffet, & masks are encouraged along with hand washing to keep bugs at bay. Unfortunately the laundry stations are closed- so lots of hand washed undies at present!! We will survive I'm sure.

Personally as hot as the weather is today in Darwin, it could be very wet, so I just have to put up with the 90% humidity !

My photos will only be a few for our quick visit to the Mall this morning !

  • Day 15

    At Sea - 17 - 20th March

March 20, 2023 in the United States

Since leaving Darwin, we experienced scenic cruising off the Kimberley coast. I only have a few photos, inside reflections off the windows really spolt the shots. We enjoyed the still waters & many islands & the commentary provided.

During the past 2 days we have enjoyed informative lectures on our upcoming day visits to firstly Busselton, then Fremantle. The reason we will visit Busselton first is that Fremantle has a cruise shop in Port.

Busselton also means we will be using our Tender boats alone, so it will be quite a process to get the 3000+ people off ship. Hopefully, conditions will be favourable with not too much swell. Let's see what tomorrow brings.

The 18th was my birthday - a late breakfast in the dining area, card games with our other shipmates & a lovely dinner in the evening, ending with our waiters all singing Happy Birthday & cake afterwards, a great day.

Sunday was a formal dinner evening, we all dressed in appropriate attire & had a wonderful evening.

There has been a drop in temperature from 30deg & high humidity to around 23 - 25 degrees over the ladt 24 hours with a swell and very windy conditions. Hopefully things will be calm tomorrow in Busselton.

  • Day 16

    Busselton WA

    March 21, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

    Wadandi Boodja.
The Wadandi people are the traditional owners of the South West of Western Australia. The name means Saltwater People's Country.

We arrived in the waters of Geograph Bay, Busselton around 8am this morning after five sea days. After a light breakfast we waited patiently to be called in groups to board our ship's Tender boats.

It is a beautiful day, around 30deg, without the humidity of the Northern Territory. We were greeted by the towns Volunteers eager to provide maps & suggestions for those without booked tours.

Busselton has a 1.84km long timber piled Jetty, the longest in the Southern Hemisphere. It is run by 100 volunteers with an underwater observatory and Reef trail with unique sculptures. Unfortunately due to the volume of people & time constraints, this wasn't an option today. The underwater observatory descends some 8 metres below the surface to view some 300 different marine species, tropical & subtropical corals & sponges.

We took the Busselton Heritage Trail around the town starting at the Jetty along the main street to visit the old Railway House, ArtGeo Gallery Old Courthouse, the Settlement Art Sculptures, St Mary's Church & Old Butter Factory.

The town was buzzing with some 3000 people eager to spend some money in this lovely seaside town. The day before the Queen Mary 2 had been in the Bay, shops not usually open on a Mon or Tuesday opened to cater for the visitors.

A really enjoyable visit to this pretty area of WA.

  • Day 17

    Fremantle / Perth WA

    March 22, 2023 in New Zealand ⋅ 🌬 11 °C

We arrived in the Port of Fremantle this morning to a beautiful day, around 30deg.

Previously we had enjoyed one of the ship's talks on the history of this region. Fremantle was first visited by the Dutch & French in the 1600s. It was then settled in 1829 by the Swan River & named after Captain Charles Fremantle, who claimed the West Coast as British. The first colony was formed when two boatloads of people arrived to form the Colony.

Fremantle is a major port for WA welcoming both container & Cruise ships & ferries. Smaller craft travel the 20km up the Swan River to Perth.

Barry & I decided to travel by train to Perth along with Vicki & Martin. The railway station was a short walk & a day ticket was $4 each. Time was limited but we enjoyed the scenery, passing through many well known areas of Cottesloe, Claremont & Subiaco before arriving in Perth.
A short look about, a few photos & back to Fremantle, taking in the wonderful well preserved buildings at the Port.

Unfortunately our time here was quite limited & was not a full day visit.

Sail away out through the small channel saw plenty of cars parked along the causeway watching the ship depart.

  • Day 18

    Albany WA

    March 23, 2023 in New Zealand ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

It was announced late morning that our ship would be making an emergency stop in Albany. A seriously ill person would be transported from the ship as we had four sea days before arriving in Pt Lincoln.

The whole transfer was a "ship to shore". We anchored some distance from the Port to allow the ship to be met by medical personnel. This was unsuccessful due to the size of the craft so one of our Tender boats became the next option to be met by ambulance & medical staff onshore.

This took most of the afternoon while we waited to set sail. The tender finally returned & our Captain announced that we would easily make up the time in the 3 sailing days across the Bight into Sth Australia.
